The state of Alaska in the United States. In the summer time we have from 21 to 24 hours of daylight per day, depending on how far north you are. Fishing is very big in the summer because of the salmon runs of five different species of salmon. Ocean fishing for halibut is good then, also. Mt McKinley is stunning and a great place to see wild life, flora and fauna. We have coastal and inlet towns. Waterfalls, old gold mines and some native villages open to tourists. The weather is in the 70's and 80's so it is never too hot but stays very comfortable for outdoor activities. In Seward, on the fourth of July, there is a big festival with one of the most harrowing foot races up the side of a mountain and back. There are beautiful glaciers to hike to and many hiking paths through our rain forests. Anchorage has many malls, shopping avenues, chocolatiers, museums and theatres. You can take dog sled rides, in Wasilla, with Iditarod racers. There are musk ox farms and a wolf farm in Palmer. There are snow machine races on water in Big Lake, too! Nearly every town has a festival at some time-the most famous being the Moose Dropping Festival in Talkeetna - and NO, we DON'T drop moose, from anything! It's called that because of the play on words about moose "droppings." There is also a Blue Grass Festival, which is a lot like Woodstock but not quite as big - or notorious!
In the winter, we have snow machine and motorcycle races on the lake in Big Lake. Skiing and snow boarding in the mountains above Anchorage or in Hatcher's Pass above Wasilla. The Iditarod race is in March, starting in Anchorage. There is also the Furondi Festival in February, also held in Anchorage. You can also rent snow machines and go on tours with guides. We have all the modern conveniences including hotels and Bed and Breakfast Inns!
There is lots to do and all of it fun! Just don't feed the bears, please! Or the moose!

All countries are safe enough now-a-days except maybe Iraq, Afganistan, N. Korea and Iran; more so if you have the right local contacts!
