The walls are uneven, I have spackled and primed. What colors would you suggest? Has anyone tried painting with joint compound. I like warm colors in the butterscotch/goldish family. What paints or effects and tools should I use?

you can buy texure product specially made for going over walls that have uneven surfaces or imperfections. you can make it look like stucco or plaster, its very easy to apply using a brush and/or trowel. i used this product made by Behr and carried at home depot. the best color to use for a mediterranean feel would be a very pale terra-cotta.use a rich cream color for trim. accents of burnt sienna, bold terra-cotta clay, and muted sage or willow green, black wrought-iron, and a little bit of turquoise. some decorative, multicolor-patterned ceramic tile using this palette would look great as an accent.

I redecorated my kitchen in french country. To give it an old world look, I used dry wall mud (compound) to give it a stucco look. Put it on with a spatula in random swirls or any pattern you wish. It looks awesome and is so easy a child can do it. You can then, by using a vinyl or latex glove, press and release your hand to the wet mud and voila! it's stucco. Great for uneven walls. I just used the spatula and made the uneven swirls.
Then I painted a darker sage green as a base coat. When dry, I used a brown stain lightly with a brush, then wipe it off with a cloth. The brown stays in the depressions and gives it the old look. Then I went over all that lightly with a light sage to hit the high points giving the low places depth. I have gotten raves from everyone on it. I then went with an old-look wide grape top border. I then took the accessory colors from the border to highlight various places. This treatment was done only on the top half of the wall. I used beaded board wainscoting painted a yellow found in the border on the bottom of the wall.

i agree with matty that walls that are imperfect are a perfect place to do a tuscan finish. yes you can use joint compound to apply a texture and you can add toner directly to the compound. i would suggest taking two or three amounts of joint compound and tinting them in coordinating shades of a similar hue, then applying them with a trowel.make sure you make sample boards first as the dried product will look very different that the wet product.
i have also used prepared finishes and have good luck with them.the one i felt was the most user friendly was behr's venetian plaster. it has a longer wet time than some.
be prepared to spend some TIME doing this and have a partner help you. prepping the area will be critical so...make sure you buy GOOD quality masking tape. its messy, but the final results are well worth it!
i love your color ideas...perfect! have fun!

Walls that are in bad shape are perfect for painting in a tuscan style! It looks really nice when you use a solid wall color (such as a goldish tone) and then use a glaze over it in a little bit darker color. It gives it that tuscan-y feel.

You can look under faux finishing on the web, there's a lot of websites that can help. You can also check your local paint store- a lot of times they have brochures and samples of faux finishes.

I can't believe this is happening. Why should history be changed to support white people when we have committed atrocities. The truth is the truth. And for the people calling you ignorant it is obvious that they are the ignorant ones. Name calling does not solve issues. And americans who celebrate cinco de mayo it is their choice to celebrate we are free american, are we not? And why would you argue that we shouldn't teach Mexico's history in America, if you hadn't notice Mexico is right there, they tie to our own history. And why would American children not be free to learn about the history of not only america, but of Mexico, and Canada and all the countries in the world. Knowledge is power. And when you shut out knowledge the only place to go is down.

I think you are on the right track with the hue you mention here. I think the joint compound is randomly troweled on. Home Depot and Lowes have all kinds of suggested techniques and tools.
