Question: "What does the Bible say about tattoos / body piercings?"

Answer: The Old Testament law commanded the Israelites, “Do not cut your bodies for the dead or put tattoo marks on yourselves. I am the LORD” (Leviticus 19:28). So, even though believers today are not under the Old Testament law (Romans 10:4; Galatians 3:23-25; Ephesians 2:15), the fact that there was a command against tattoos should cause us to question. The New Testament does not say anything about whether a believer should or should not get a tattoo.

Well the dislike of tattoos came from a long line of hate in the early western beliefs! At the same time there are other cultures who also are Christians and they embrace tattoo art! Other cultures around the world were known to have thier men and Women tattoo themselves as a right of passage and different things they go through in life! So really i think it depends on the person themselves! I like the art i have on my body and i plan on a little more! I'm also Christian. I went through the thing with people in the church also. they can be the same one's to really look down on you because you have one! The attitudes society has passed on alot of people will make others out of place. You should never look at anyone different because you have a tattoo. It's wrong but it happens. not so much now but it still happens! so just be carefull and pray on it!

Christians are funny. I can find you a list of passages in the bible against tattoos, I can also find ones for body art. I also wodner why people choose to base their lives on this really old book someone found one day, rather than just doing what the hell they want, life's not a rehersal if you don't do it now you wont get another chance. If you die and God's real and he doesn't like it, ah well at least you enjoyed the time, if you die next week (hopefully not!) then you will go with one awesome looking decorated carcass.

I can't say I've ever run across anything in the Bible that says tattoo's are sinful. I'm a Christian, and 43 year old mother of two children ... I also sport a beautiful tattoo on my shoulder blade that I designed myself. I certainly don't expect to be meeting Sir Satan upon my departing this place, just because I chose to put a tattoo on my body. Worse sins have been committed, I'm certain.

I've never understood why people believe that tattoo's are such a tabu entity.

I have a question, do you have your ears pierced? It's the same thing. It is only looked at differently because of what society views as "normal". I believe the Bible says not to mark your body with memorials. So don't get a tat in remembrance of someone who has passed. And if you think your body is a temple then that means much more than tats. It also means alcohol, tobacco, sodium, cholesterol, high fat, lack of exercise, etc, etc,..... If you are going to hide behind the Bible for things you view as wrong then you should be living up to everything it says. But wouldn't you decorate a temple?

plz plz plz don't get a tattoo, I think they are gross and idiotic, I'd rather walk around, with my ipod and dog tagg, and my nike string backpack, which is a way neater way to accerorise than getting a tattoo, besides, get one of you want skin cancer, I don't know what it is about tattoos that make people want them, why change the way God made you? And now a days a lot most people find them unnatractive, why hurt yourself and your body to get somesort of picture on you arm, again IDIOTIC, I'm not gonna talk about this anymore but I'm just sayin' it is a sin and it will hurt you and you are gonna feel like an idiot once you get it. (i'll just drop it at that)
good luck with
do the right thing!
hint: (which is not getting a freaking tattoo)

To the best of my knowledge (Catholic and have a tatoo) it is not a sin, nor is there anything about it in the Bible, in any strucctured way. I am sure some interpretive stances could state it is a sin, so check with your preacher or pastor, but my thinking is no.

Of course, if you get a tatoo that is sinful (naked person, vulgarity, etc) then that would be a sin, but if you got something innocuous, or even religious, I do not see how that would be an issue.

If you're brainwashed into thinking it's wrong for some stupid reason, no one will change your mind no matter what. Wait til you're old enough and do what you want to do. A tattoo isn't any more of a 'sin' than having your ears pierced or getting a permanent in your hair.

Man has embellished his body with tattoos longer than the bible has been around. In some countries it is considered a religious thing to do. It depends on how YOU feel about it. No one else.

Ok... Depending how christian you are.. I am!! I have 3 tattoo's. My grandmother is a HUGE bible thumper and one thing she did bring to my attention is: Somewhere in the bible, I can't quote which chapter or verse... But, it says; Treat your body as a temple. You can take that how you want it.. But, I asked my grandmother the same question your asking.. That's what she told me. She said she didn't see it as a sin and if I wanted one didn't mean she was getting one.. So, I would say go for it..

Yes its a sin. Many dont know but tattoos started with slaves. Slaves were branded on their for identification purposes by masters. Think about that it was a painful process and besides tattoos are overrated. Everyone seems to be getting one.
