You need to be honest with him. Please don't just ignore his emails...everyone deserves better than that. He needs to know the truth so that he can move on as well.

just tell him that he's a great guy and that eventhough ya'll have shared some great conversations, you just don't think the long distance relationship thing is going to work out. just tell him that you like to give your relationships a 100% effort and the long distance relationship thing just isn't letting that happen--that both of ya'll are getting cheated in the relationship and that both of you deserve better. maybe some of that will help......i've used a couple of those lines in some way or the other and it basically spared the guys feelings. well good luck :)

Tell him that you thought you both work a relationship out despite the distance between you but you've realized that you can't go on with it.Apologize and thank him for his time with you.And you are done

be truth full without being mean, for example...you deserve someone who will appreciate {fill in your own words],and I'm just not able to give you all the[whatever] you deserve.this lets you sound as if you are concerned about him and not trying to dump him.I know that there is someone special out there just waiting to meet you...you still retain your nice person image

the best way is to tell them straight up. say that you think its not working out becuz of the distance or for whatever reason.
and it wont be that bad cuz you wont have to see him or anything.. haha
