Humans are not the only creations of God.
Angels are also created beings. One third of the angels chose to follow the devil and are now demons (evil spirts).
Humans were not created as spirits, they have an eternal soul and must choose to spend eternity with the evil or the Good.
We cannot choose to come back to earth after we die. God can and will call three witnessess to come back to earth in the end times. He even uses the word reincarnation for this. The whole point is that God decides who and when, not us.
Demons and angels, however, do have the ability to come to earth in spirit and in human flesh form. This is written about a lot in the bible in many different places and makes for very interesting reading and studying. Even the bible states that we must be careful how we treat one another, for we may have entertained an angel today.

I don't know about "for sure" but this is my best understanding and experience to this time.
The situation in the spirit world changed drastically with the death and the resurrection of Jesus Christ. While the situation changed the structure remained unchanged; including the fact that there is more than one heaven and more than one hell.
St. Paul speaks of being translated to the third heaven where it is unlawful for a man to speak of what is said there. I leave the study to you.
Without going into hours of writing here is the bottom line. The first hell is the abode of the dead awaiting judgment, the second the abode of evil spirits and the third the pit prepared for the devil and his angels. At this point in time spirits in the second abode of hell are pretty much loose over the earth and they produce the things you speak of.
To this point nothing manifests out of the first heaven or the first hell or between the two. Anything that has ever manifested out of the second or third heaven has, with the exception of dreams and visions, never manifested other than "in the flesh" so to speak. -- for some have entertained angels unawares the Bible notes. In other words pretty solid, will identify if they have a message and will be male.

I cannot know for sure because the answer is not in the Bible.
Clearly the Bible characters believed in such a thing as spirits or ghosts, but the Bible never says who or what they were exactly. There are definitely evil spirits, demons, and fallen angels that are referred to in the Bible. It teaches that they search around for human or animal bodies to inhabit. They can carry with them sicknesses, both mental and physical, as well as addictions.
I believe that the demons, evil spirits, etc, lived on the earth with bodies, before the earth we now know was remodeled. Yes, I mean remodeled. I and many others believe that there is a large space of time between the first verse of Genesis and the second verse. We believe that a monumental battle occured between Satan (and his followers) and YHWH (God) and His angels, during the period between these two verses. The creatures of that "pre-Adamic" world followed Satan. A war ensued. Those who followed Satan lost the battle. Their punishment, since they were eternal souls, was disembodiment. They became the demons etc of today. (Maybe their bodies left some of the unexplained fossils that have been found?)
We do know for sure that the war to which I refer is in the Bible. It is a "best guess" that this war occurred between the first verse and the second verse of Genesis.
Nowadays, some of these evil spirits may mimic actual humans, following the death of that human's body. The human has gone on, to heaven or hell. But an evil spirit, known as a "familiar spirit", because it is "familiar" with that dead person, their family, their occupation, their friends, etc, continues in the earthly realm and may mimic the dead human. I believe that is what ghosts are. Familiar spirits that use what they know about dead humans to trick living humans such as family members. This is the stuff of seances and the like, all of which are forbidden by the Bible to humans, no doubt because of their potential to fool and lead people astray.
Hope this helps.

I think your asking about like ghosts who haunt and the such. There is only one ghost and there is a name. The Holy Ghost also called The Holy Spirit. Any other manifestations are demonic. The Bible calls them familiar spirits. They can imitate, they can gather knowledge and remember it to show themselves as familiar or the same person who is dead. The devil can show himself as a angel of light, but it's really a demonic one. So a person needs to have The Holy Ghost living in their heart to know which is which. The Holy Spirit is our Helper, Teacher, and our Guide. So anyother spirit other than The Holy Spirit is a demonic one. PEACE!!!

Are you referring to the holy spirit? Ghost spirits sound demonic, that would be fallen angels who rebelled with Satan. If you mean the holy spirit, then it means God Spirit. Since God is a triune God, God- The soul, Jesus- The body, The holy spirit- The spirit.
Everyone is made in the image of God, having body, soul, and spirit. And yes everyone either goes to heaven or hell. If you have the spirit of God, by taking on the spirit of Jesus, then you will go to heaven, for the sins will be cleared. However without Jesus, you have to face God on your own, with all your sins.

With all dues respect, the first statement is not correct.
The Bible does NOT say we go to heaven or hell once we die.
Psalm 115:16 states, although the heavens exist, it is not our place.
Psalm 37:29 states our future is on earth.....under better conditions.
Ghosts are demons toying with us.

Have you ever Read the Bible? Perhaps 2007 is a good year for you to start?
The Bible will answer many of your questions! One verse I would like to share with you...
(Jeremiah 29:11-to-13) For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.
(Jer 29:12) Then shall ye call upon me, and ye shall go and pray unto me, and I will hearken unto you.
(Jer 29:13) And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.
Thanks, RR

People from different religions will give you different answers to religious questions and all of the answers are right because no one actually knows but many believe.
So maybe it is just a question of what you believe heaven and hell are? And are you really sure it's so black and white that those are they only 2 choices?

Yeah, what ghost spirits? God didn't create adult ghosts that He commanded to multiply. It is only God and His spiritual, perfect ideas. Ghosts are of the human imagination.
