All straighteners will ruin your hair. It's not the brand that ruins it, but the amount of heat damage you are doing. I use Conair ceramic straighteners because a) it's cheap and b) it works really well. Just lower the heat level.
To reverse some damage, though, use a protectant. You can buy some from the store that work really good. I love big sexy hair products.

CHI is the best brand of flat iron, by far... but they're really expensive. If you're looking for a product to put in your hair to help with the straightening process, i use "Control Freak" and I like it.

i had a walmart con air and got the chi straightener and i actually like my twenty dollar con air way better than the eighty dollar chi. but i have REALLY thick hair so the big con air was easier for me and didn't take as long to use. but as far as ruining your hair, most straighteners are gonna have the same effect as blow dryers. you just have to use the right kind of shampoos and conditioners.

Go to Sally Beauty Supply. They have a generic Chi there that costs about 60 bucks. It works just as good as a Chi.

CHI-it is REALLY expensive
Conair- good product
never buy one that doesnt have a closing lock or one under $25 cause they usually are a very poor quality

at sally beauty the logo by cricket its the best flat iron ive ever bought and it wasnt that pricy
