depends on the guy. i would say im shy when meeting a girl, but i have a friend that just goes for it. its not really about self esteem either. i sometimes find myself asking the girl out. its like a game, like the ones girls play on guys, hard to get, but the other way around. its the 21st century, guys dont have to do everything anymore....its all a game! sometimes you have to play offense

Child let me tell ya what!!! A guy is very shy around DROP DEAD GEORGEOUS LADY !! And I will bet you are one!!! So what you need to do is if a certain shy guy has caught your eye try dropping a few hints, like there is this movie I want to see or their is a function I would like to go but I don't want to go unless accompanied by areally nice gentleman ,you know, someone I can trust ,like you. Now watch him stutter and stammer cause his dream come true just passed the option over to him to ask you out. He is thinking WOWSA YOWSA!!! So give him a day or so and see what happens while his feet get back on he ground and say something like "well the movie or function is coming up and (,Now here is where you let him know it wasn't a dream when you said it the first time) and I still don't have an escort? Well if he doesn't go for it than move on to the next guy. I tell young men that there is no harm in trying cause even the best baseball players strike out 7 out of 10 times and I guess the same advice can go to girls Good Luck!!!!

They're probably scared of getting rejected or that the girl might think differently/badly of them if they ask them out and the girl says no. They also might be really shy

Yep fear of rejection. It's thier competative nature.
There not as shy if they know what the answer will be before they ask the question.....give him hints or have a friend do it.

perhaps they're afraid of being rejected, so they want the girl to take initiative and make the first move. if you're not comfortable making the first move, assure the guy that you like him and take things slowly. maybe he'll ask, maybe not.

They get tired of being rejected on various levels.

they fear rejection so they just spare themselves the embarrassment of being rejected and just don't do anything at all .. hope this helps !

Because 'girls' can get very nasty when turning someone down. (In other words, cause many have no manners.) Like 'are you hitting on me' or 'ewww' or 'pervert'?
