There is a difference. Bigger does not = louder. Bigger does = deeper. Smaller subs can sometimes play louder than a larger one but there are many factors that add to sub performance. One of the biggest if not the biggest factor in the sound of your subwoofer is the box that it is in. If you ever hook up a subwoofer without putting it in a box, you will definitely hear where I got this logic from. and if you ever get a chance to sample subs of different sizes you will hear and feel a difference. I had a friend with two 10s, I've personally had a Kicker 15, and after I blew it being reckless, I obtained two Q-power 12s. Out of the ones that I have had the 12s sound the best but I like the "feel" of the 15. The bottom line is Yes there is a difference between the sizes and Choosing the right size as with all other aspects should be a matter of personal taste, personal choice, need, and usability.

Max Watts aside, the brand of the speakers matters a lot (a crappy 12" will not sound better than a high quality 10"). If they are both a good brand around the same max wattage, we start looking at the capabilities, a 12" can hit lower and louder notes compared to a 10". However if you are looking for good, strong clean bass for you and your passengers a 10" is sufficient, but if you are looking for all of that for you , your passengers and all of the cars around you, you probably want 12s. A name brand like JL Audio will never let you down 10s or 12s.

the bass gets deeper the bigger the woofer. usually, the woofer can handle more power if its bigger because they like to put a tad big bigger of a magnet on them. but if you have the right box, an 8" woofer would be louder than a 15" one.

10's are perfect. 12's are the limit. More than that and ur wasting money and space. Nowadays quality over quantity.

yes there is. Bass is all about moving air, so bigger surface area of course means you are able to move more air. bigger subs on the same level as the one you are comparing it to can usually handle more power.
