This has always confused me a little. Since I am a divorced woman, I don't want to be regarded as my ex husbands wife anymore, am by no means a Miss and Ms. seems a little revloutionist for me. What title do I use properly?

Mrs means "Mistress of". If you get a divorce you are no longer the "property" of the man. When divorced, you can either go back to using Miss or use the term Ms.

If you are married by the way, and use the term, it must be used with the husbands name. IE: Mrs. John Smith. To use the term Mrs. Jane Smith is incorrect as you can not be your own mistress.

Decide who you are. Use the title that reflects your identity. If you wish to be regarded as a former wife use Mrs. If you wish to be regarded as an individual use Ms. Under no circumstances is "Miss" still an option, since you have been married.

Well, if you continue to keep your husband's name then I would keep Mrs., but if your going back to your maiden name you would change to Ms. because your not married to yourself. I would recommend using Ms...... be revolutionary and be FREE! I personally don't see anything unusal about using Ms. and btw you might at one time in the future decide to start dating again, and Ms. will attract more people than Mrs. ....

Miss normally refers to a younger woman who has never been married. Mrs. is reserved for a married woman who is married or widowed. Most divorced women prefer Ms. because it can apply to a woman of any age, regardless of marital status.

I started using the Ms. b/c Miss seemed a little too rediculous after having been Mrs.

She is no longer a ''Miss''---that is a woman who has never been married. She has a choice to continue being ''Mrs.'' or ''Ms''. In fact, alot of married women use the ''Ms.'' for business reasons. There is nothing revolutionist about it at all. It is the standard and proper use of grammar now.

Depends if you use your husband's name or not. If you don't then you'll be a Ms. A Miss is usually for a woman who has never been married.

Unless It is annulled she is still Mrs. Ms. is used when it is unknown Mrs. or Miss. You can have your named changed back to your Maiden name but it isn't automatic you have to request the judge change it back. xx

If you have children and your have changed your married surname back to your maiden surname then you title is (Ms).

If you have children and are keeping your husbands surname because he and you did not state it on your divorce settlement then your title is (Ms) with his surname

If you did not have children then you revert back to your maiden surname with the title (Miss)

"Miss" is for a woman who has never been married.
"Mrs." is for a married woman or a woman who is widowed.
"Ms" is for a woman who has never been married, but has matured, and want to use it.
"Ms." is also for a woman who is divorced.
