A hiccup is a spasm of the diaphragm. Often a person with these muscle spasms is low in magnesium. Try taking double the daily recommended amt. of magnesium. Unless you take huge amounts of it, it is safe.
That's longer term. For right now relief try this. I've done it on several people and they're always amazed.
There is a notch at the top of your breastbone or bottom of your neck (suprasternal notch). Push in there with your finger firmly, but not to the point of pain. Hold for about 30 seconds. Hiccups will probably be gone after that. Is amazing. Probably some kind of acupressure point of the diaphragm.

sip lemon juice!
Hiccups are caused by irritation to the trachea valve. This will usually run in spells. The lemon juice will stop hiccups instantly.
I had the hiccups for 4 days non-stop. I couldn't even sleep and I finally went to the doctor and that is what he told me. However he did give me a shot to help the irritation. If it doesn't subside you may have to see your doctor but try the lemon juice first it works!

hiccups are in reality not know to have an purpose. ide say hold ur breath or drink very acidic things or whatever normal home remedies. however there is no true definite cure. there has been documented and filmed cases of people having hiccups for years non stop. ide say wait it out its really the only truly definite cure
