o gee thank god you asked morally
well it depends on your reasons for doing it...i guess if you want to expose then it is morally wrong but suppose you have like a cloth or a shawl or whatever and you cover yourself and breatfeed your baby in public i see nothing wrong....many people just dont want to see a woman's breasts in public especially we don't want to turn on some of those nasty men out there.

so for our own diginity if we do it in a dignified fashion there is nothign wrong with it.
i mean the baby needs milk doesn't he/she?

Persephone,
I think it ok for mothers to feed their children where ever they find suitable.
I know todays society is so PC conscious, and it makes me sad.

Do what you need to do, Politically Corectness is merely Social Sensorship, hidden behind a pink veil, Pushed by the Nanny-state, and we do not have to stand for it.

If you believe that youe a good mother, and your own mother believes your a good mother, then look no further.
Because your own mother should be the only woman you ever have to answer to.
Thats just part of honoring your father and mother.
If it will get you thrown in jail, I might suggest like others before me to please use a blanket to show nothing natural to todays sissies.
Of course what confuses me is how women can have one of those undersised super V neck shirts on with no bra, I guess people would object to breast feeding because the baby is blocking their view.

Morals have both an individual and a societal component. In a society like America, it is 'morally' acceptable if it is done discreetly (ie. don't flash your boobs, cover baby/boob with cloth, etc) in some communities, while it would be unacceptable under any circumstances in other communities. I have seen women breast-feed their child with full breat exposure in some No. CA towns, yet have also experienced the scorn of others while breat-feeding discreetly in southern towns.

So the true question is whether you care about other people's 'moral' views. Assuming that their moral righteousness stems from their religion, what religion would deny a child/infant nourishment?

Of course then we must consider societal constructs of morality. I would not breat-feed in public in a Muslim country, in a place that had religious extremists of any type (orthodox jew, fundamentalist christian, etc). A woman may choose to publicly breast-feed in these situations, but I find this inconsiderate and insensitive to others...my morals would not allow me to do this unless my infant was in extreme distress. Even then. I would be discreet.

Now consider a country like Germany....they have not (in general) embraced the 'Puritanical' spirit of the Americans. Breastfeeding is conducted openly, full-boob. The difference b/w them and 'Puritanical' Americans is the acceptance of the body parts of humans. Boobs are only sexual when they are sexualized. They are only sexualized when they are 'off-limits'.

Bottom line for me: do what is appropriate in any given situation, being considerate of others' feelings and beliefs. But if your kid is hungry, hell with 'em.

In many cultures and societies it is perfectly acceptable. In the USA, however, it is far less accepted than in other parts of the world. The genital based morality that is generated by fundamentalists frowns on exposure of parts of the body considered to be sexual.

I can understand that some people don't want to see a child being breast fed, but what would you say if I told you you had to eat your dinner in the restroom? I personally would say yuck, it's germy in there. Why subject a baby to that. And the child has to eat. Cover your chest with a blanket, everyone else be sensitive to the family's needs!

Yes it is natural. If the baby needs it then you need to. If you dont feel comforatable doing it in public then you can go to a bathroom or another room to brestfeed. Just dont brestfeed around kids. they may make fun of it or think its gross even thoough its not. Its normal!

Morally?

I think you mean socially acceptable and yes, as long as the woman is suitable discreet (a blanket usually is used)

often anybody who denies a splash one milk because of the fact public is watching is a chilly blooded assassin. yet then in those pages, I even have considered that greater human beings help men who plant bombs in toys than people who defuse those bombs. as a result M. Javed Iqbal gets greater Thums up than i visit.

Morally? Absolutely. Socially? Unfortunately not. Men--and yes, some women--think that is something that should only be done behind closed doors.

discreetly yes; hang up of people; it is a natural thing; do you freak if a dog is nursing puppies; etc ; if you have a problem with it ; don't look; you shouldn't be staring and watching other people anyway; pay attention to your life and mind your business and let the nature of a Mom feeding an infant be just that
