Isn't that like telling a thief, "thanks for robbing me". "I will take it as a learning experience". How about for the dirty cop that planted drugs on me, while doing a routine traffic stop. Do I fall to my knees and say "thank you god for this injustice". The experiences of jail is going to make me a better person"

How many of you thank god for cancer, poverty or falling victim to others?

Because not only we learn from some of those experiences, but also some of them "makes us stronger" and gives us endurance to cope with worst things that might occur in our lives.
Some helps us to appreciate our freedom, and teaches us what would be like no to have it any more; others bad experiences helps us to appreciate the value of life.
Some experiences makes us better persons in society, because of that bad experience we don not want to be like "that dirty cop", or like those who have hurt us; it makes us more sympathetic with others.
Others makes us appreciate life, and in many cases get us closer to God, family members we never talked before or friends, and we learn strength, and power we never had before.
Fatality befall us all, and even if we can not change some bad things that happened,( like an illness) at least not in this world, we can only hope that God's promises in his word, the bible, will very soon come to a fulfillment, and that in DUE TIME, he will UNDO the damages that bad things have caused in our lives, and will restore the earth and those in it, to perfection and excellent health.
Whether you believe in God or not, the fact is that this will happen just like all those prophecies in the past were perfectly fulfilled by him, so it will be done for us very, very soon.
All we have to do is study the bible with an open mind and heart, and believe, have faith , hope and wait.
A friend.

You don't have to be thankful, but being so allows you to learn from the situation. Resenting the incidents in your life rather than learning from them teaches you only bitterness.

You can recognize that an act or a disease is bad without becoming resentful over it. All things, good or bad, make room for the possibility of growth. Recognizing this possibility is what is meant by being thankful in a situation. It doesn't mean that we are glad that something bad happened, only that we can recognize that there is a possibility of something good coming from it.

Just because something seems "bad" at the time doesn't means it is always bad. Some "bad" things have very good consequences that we don't see for many years.

God knows exactly what is happening in your life and what will happen for the rest of your life. Nothing happens that He does not allow to happen.

God never promises us continuous happiness, but great Joy. They are two very different things. It is possible to have Joy in the midst of sorrow or Pain.

When it says be thankful in all things, it does not mean be thankful you got bad things it means maintain an attitude of appreciation for the good things God has done in your life while you are suffering the wrong bestowed upon you. This builds character and stops you hardening your heart. Paul never said thank you God for having the Romans throw me in jail he said thank you God for being with me and keeping my spirits up then they had a singalong and broke out...lol

When we realize that life is unsatisfactory and their is no god who waves a magic wand to make things better then I think this realization can help us to get through the hard times a little easier. No, I do not thank god for anything either.

It's not what happens to you that matters...it is how you REACT to it. Do you understand? Are you trying to be a good person? Are you trying to find God? Are you trying to find a purpose to this life? Are you doing good? Or are you doing what you damn well please and to hell with everything else? We know, before we come to this earth, that there are things we are going to learn. We accepted the challenge to come here and learn.

Many terrible things have happened to me but I am who I am and I would not be who I am had things happened differently than they did. In spite of all the pain and suffering I now like who I am and I am therefor grateful that all those terrible things happened to me to help make me the person I have become.

I am in some terrible difficulty now, I have made mistakes that are causing me enormous pain and which threaten my life. I may be crippled or die as a result. But I carry on.

The very best possible way to carry on is to accept who and what I am now and to accept the situation or cirmcumstances I find myself in. The reason this is true is that when we resist what we believe is true or real we create pain and depression in our lives which make our lives worse rather than better.

Also, in order to make our lives better we need to be strongly grounded, and acceptance of our circumstances helps to keep us firmly in touch with our lives, rather than in a miserable state of denial.

Denial disempowers us and disenfranchises us from having the best possible life we can create for ourselves. So it behooves us to do everything in our power to avoid denial and resistance to the things we cannot change, and to instead accept those things so that we may enable ourselves to move on.

Forgiving can be important because if we hold onto anger about something we continue to create more pain and distress in our lives, and while we may be powerless to change what happened to us we can choose not to be angry or to hold on to regret.

By accepting and forgiving we take back the power we lose when we indulge in anger or hatred or regret.

So please, for your own sake, learn how to use the powerful tools of acceptance and forgiveness to save yourself from causing yourself even more harm with your anger, hatred or regret, so that you may empower yourself to create a much better life for yourself.

when bad things happen to good people it is like thanking the thief.! it sucks.
but i have been repeatedly taught that bad things happen and good people grow stronger, therefore it is for our good that we become people of character and strength. So that we dont Cry "abba" like a baby infant for all eternity.

The reason why you should be thankful when bad things happen to you is because it could be worst.
