What does a tsunami or other natural disaster have to do w free will? I don't think Christians are wishing for a natural disaster to occur.

The common answer some christians give is a distortion- we all make mistakes (the word sin is a greek word that means missing the mark) - God gave us guidelines to keep us from destroying ourselves- not to condemn us with some abstract rule
I have missed the mark in many areas including sexual situations
My problems are no better or worse than someone who has homosexual leanings. Unfortunately there are some people who
get enjoyment or make themselves feel better by comdemning other people.
I think we are born with leanings in certain directions (concept of sin nature). I personally have problems in my relationships or lack of, with women - but I believe I would be happier if I had a loving relationship than being alone. My personal sexual problems have been a damaging influence in my life, sex just for the sake of the feeling with no love or commitment is a distraction that keeps me away from what would really be fulfilling.
The bible actually indicates the worst sins are pride and envy and trusting in things other than God.
As far as the tragedies in this world I don't understand either why God allows these things- a good deal of it is caused by the cruelty of other human beings.
There are christians with understanding if you look for them-- if you look for the hateful kooks, who call themselves christian, you will also find them

Please read Romans 1. Especially verses 26 and 27. I'll give you 27- And likewise also the males, leaving the natural use of the female, burned in their craving toward one another, males with males committing unseemliness and fully receiving in themselves the retribution of their error which was due.
28 And even as they did not approve of holding God in their full knowledge, God gave them up to a disapproved mind, to do the things which are not fitting
There's the result.
God does give us free will...I mean, can't you choose to believe in Him or not? He isn't forcing you to do anything you don't want to. The tragedies are for a purpose that God knows and has planned. He knows what is best. Though maybe you cannot see anything good in a tsunami, God knows what is going on so don't think He just left us or anything. Well, hope I helped!
In Christ, Melodie

I think that many people say that being gay is against what God believes, because that is what they have been taught from childhood, they don't know why it is wrong, but it is just what they have been taught. That could explain why instead of giving an explanation of why it is wrong, they just say it is wrong in God's eyes.
As for the why God allows tragedies to occur, well if you never know the bad, then how can you appreciate the good. And tragedies also allow people to recommit themselves to their faith, it tests it. If all goes well all the time, then faith may fall to the wayside, because people will start to believe that all will always go well.

Your misunderstanding the concept. Okay lets try to agree on one thing.... Love,in its purest form, has to be chosen. Anything other than that is not true love. God wants us to WANT to choose Him. God does give us freedom and its only a contradiction if it was unlimited freedom. But as you know freedom is not really free. The united states with its more and more laws is battleing the issues of personal freedom in the courts.
So God gives us the free will to do bad or good. BUT that still implies their is a good. Think of it like this.... the government still has laws right? Its your free will to break them or not....just keep in mind there are consequences to pay if you do.
And one last thing, to the person above about the Burger king comment--thats idolitry, making a God that suits you. Its specific its a sin

I am a Christian, and I know exactly how people are. Most people want to accept what they choose to accept and condemn what they want to condemn. You dont hear people saying that having premarital sex is a sin. but that is also stated in the bible. I am a heterosexual female, but I have come to the realization that you can never please people regardlesss of whay you do. Don't worry about how others feel about you bc the bible also says judge ye not. So, if there are giving you grief about your situation, then they are sinning as well. The point is that NO ONE will ever be perfect, but we should not sin deliberately.

When it comes to the human race in general we all do things that are sinful in the eyes of God. People who attack certain things that people do are not in God's will either. It is hard to explain why he allows certain thing to happen and I don't think it is always up to us to understand these things. Even though he did not intend men or women to live a gay life style it is not up to anyone to judge such acts. This will surely be done by God himself so it is best to seek him and get right with him. The choices we make are truly our own and if they are wrong we have to pay the price ourselves.

Many people don't know how to answer questions correctly, without being biased, and many of these same people don't know enough about thier own religion to answer intelligently. There are some who are so zealous in their religious beliefs that they allow their zeal to cloud their judgement, so they start spouting off, without thinking about what they are saying.
An intelligent Christian, (who has a lick of common sense), would realize that every opportunity to speak with another human being is an opportunity to help them. Jumping up on a soapbox and beating someone over the head with a Bible is not, and never has been, a good way to help people, nor is it a good way to reveal the tenets of Christianity to them.
I am one such soul who dared to study and learn about anything involving religion I could get my hands on, and for my trouble, I was beaten about the head and shoulders (figuratively) and told that no other religion was right, they all have it wrong, and ours is the only true church, you can't even trust the Christian church down the street, because they take things out of context regarding the Bible, etc, etc. Well, I got tired of being told the same crap, and not getting any real, intelligent, thoughtful answers.
From all that I have studied, and from my own experiences, all I can tell you is you only have to listen to your heart. Most people know right from wrong, but people get caught up in their zeal, and forget that we are all at different levels of learning in our lives. You cannot explain the complexities of the universe to a baby and expect him to understand you, just as you can't explain the mechanics of a vehicle to a man whose only training is in brain surgery.
I look at it this way, I think we all come to earth with a packet, if you will, that each day we pull some new experiences out of that we will learn from. How we approach these experiences and what we do with them shapes our lives and the lives of those around us.
We are all learning something new every day of our lives, some of us learn harder lessons than others, but in the end, if we are open to glean something positive from our experiences, then we win, because we learn something valuable that cannot be taken away from us.
If any person, religious or otherwise, is wise enough, they can approach any conversation with a grain of salt, not take themselves too seriously, and interject some humor and understanding into communications with other people. If people do that, they can bridge gaps amoungst each other that others cannot.
We must all learn to try to understand one another, appreciate that we are all human, and strive to treat others with respect and dignity, only then can we truly understand one another, and learn from one another without pain. It is never necessary to inflict one's religious or other beliefs upon another to get your point across, all you have to do is get their attention, and what better way than to treat them with respect and compassion?
I hope that you find the answers you seek, and that those that communicate with you in the future learn how to be compassionate towards you and others.

You nailed it on the head, they pick and choose the laws that best suits their needs and wants. Good for you for doing what you feel in your heart. Don't let anyone tell you different.
If I can find one man that does not hate homosexuals or anyone In general, then a being with unlimited love and forgiveness should be able to do the same. Its silly to believe otherwise.
