what does familiar souls mean?

help me. I'm writing a story and i need to know what it means

It refers to a way of understanding that seems to transcend time and space.

Have you ever met someone and stopped to talk for 5 minutes and suddenly realize you've been talking for an hour?

Do you have a friend that you can go months without seeing and when you're together you start going on like you saw each other yesterday?

Those are familiar souls. The more 'logical' reasoning is that your brain patterns and cultural circumstances are similar enough that you feel very comfortable.

I like logic but not too much of it. For me who believes in reincarnation when I experience these people it's an instant resonance to the past.. there are people I have been in contact with during many past existances and we seek each other out in some fashion.

For the more "American-Christian-Traditionalist" people out there, many of those believe that your souls have been together with God in heaven and that God allows you to keep some of those memories so you have special bonds with people in your life.

Either way, familiar souls are wonderful and rare.

It means spirits that come from the other side and attempt to communicate with the living. Samuel kept telling King Saul to stop it but he couldn't cause one of the familiar spirits was a young lady that Saul had a crush on, or lusted after, or something like that; and Saul kept trying to do stuff. It was a pretty scary story.
