Of course. Some of the most brilliant people in history have suffered with a mental illness. It has nothing to do with intelligence and it actually seems to me as if having a genius IQ puts a person at greater risk of having certain psych problems. I think that the smarter you are, the more frustrating it is to deal with because you clearly know something is wrong, you think "I should be able to (do whatever)."
I don't think coffee is the answer. I think sometimes Prozac (or any of the many other options out there) is.

Absolutely. In fact, many people with high IQs have a tendency to be more depressed than people with an IQ around 105 or below.
Best thing for depression is true friends, activity (other than your usual...if that's intellectual stuff or whatever you do). Be humble, be generous, compliment people. Be a good listener and a true friend...someone that people wouldcometo for advice. That is the best feeling in the world.
If you feel superior to others and can't knock your depression, go to a psychologist first. Be trueful, lay everything on the table.
Choose a good one (usually one that is associated with a good University). If they feel you could benifit from SSRIs, they'll recommend a psychiatrist.

Have you been tested for attention deficit disorder? It is possible to be genius and depressed. Check out Mark Twain. Are you trying to accomplish things or just don't do anything because you just don't feel like it. You might want to talk to someone that can help you like a therapist. You will probably understand and feel much better. Good Luck.

Yes and it can make your situation a whole lot worse. To stop the cycle you need to break it, but to that it will take a combination of many things. You will need medication to stabilize the mood, so you will begin to think clearer. Therapy then can be viable because your mind will be more receptive to therapy. Therapy is work so expect assignments on how to improve life quality and how to deal with your life. In therapy they will teach you how to deal with what triggers your depression and how to modify your behavior on how to deal. This will allow a break, so when you are presented with similar situations you will have tools from therapy and good medication, so depression is averted.

Depression is not class or race orientated. Mike Wallace had
it and came out in his late years to talk about it. The writer of
"Twilight Zone" also had it to some degree. My belief is depression is a condition that lasts a long time that you cannot pull yourself out of. I have been depressed....but never allowed myself to stay there. Psychiatrists can be dangerous as many want to keep you coming back to pay their living expensives. Anybody who tells you otherwise is either a fool or below your IQ level. The more people you have in your life to care about and who care about you, keeps you that much above the depth of nothingness. Love and peace.

Of course it's possible. Depression can happen to anyone, no matter how smart they are. Coffee won't help, I'm afraid.
You may want to see a physician who can diagnose you and rule out any other causes for your symptoms. You and the doc can discuss possible solutions. Medication can work wonders.
Good Luck!

Depressing is not biased...it's not based on size, color, female, male, smart or unintelligent. I dated a man who was 13 years older then I was at one time who's IQ was very high, he fought depression all the time but then he too thought he was to smart and didn't need to get any help....Please allow yourself to get the help if you need it and make sure you talk to someone. Taking good care of yourself both inside and out is very important.
Take care of YOU!

Totally possible; I've actually heard it's likely. I'm in the same boat. Caffeine is addictive; leave it alone. Zoloft works for me, and excercise helps a lot. Good luck, best wishes, and happy holidays.

The more intelligent you are, the more likely you are to be depressed. At least, that's what my shrink says.
Drugs help. Therapy helps. Sometimes.
Sometimes nothing helps.

Being highly intelligent can mean being easily bored. Simple minds are easily amused, as they say.
You have to find your purpose. Find something constructive to apply your intellect to.
