I dont know if it will mess with any nerves though. what are the pros and cons of getting the back of your neck pierced? The only other thing i've ever had pierced was my eye brow, and my body rejected it... should i attempt this piercing or not? How long does it normally take to heal? thanks!

and no, chipsqueek, if it messed with nerves it doesn't mean it's illegal, tounge piercings can damage the nerves in your tounge if not done right and thoes are legal...

I have never heard of a piercing done on the back of the neck,I don't even know if it is possible since there is not really much to work with in the back of the neck but bone. And if your body rejected the last piercing, maybe you better think about this long and hard. You are right to be concerned about the nerves, your spine is the most sensitive part of your body and you gotta be careful with that. Ask a piercing artist, they will definately know.

Alright, so I have two nape piercings, and honestly... they weren't all that painful to get. If you go to a reputable studio for it, you'll walk out with a gorgeous, clean piercing. But the rest is up to you.
I like it because it is relatively unnoticable unless I'm wearing my hair up, and I've never actually gotten any negativity about having it. A social negative is the attention people think it warrants-- I've had people try to touch my piercings while standing behind me at a gas station. (ew!)
There's not a lot of danger associated with the actual piercing if you go to the right person. The ideal jewelry is a "surface barbell," shaped like a staple, as opposed to a straight barbell (like you would put in a tounge piercing) as it puts less pressure on the piercing. Someone not immediately offering this jewelry to you, walk away from.
A lot of people ask me really brainless questions. "Does that go through your spine?" "Won't that cause damage to your spinal cord and nerves?" And that can get pretty annoying. Also, your hair will catch on the barbell which can be pretty painful.
It's a surface piercing, so it takes a long, long time to heal about 1 year or longer), and requires a lot of care. They are also VERY prone to rejection and surfacing (which can look nasty) when cared for improperly. Most professional piercers recommend healing and holding an easier piercing first before going for a surface piercing, as it is a bit more extreme. I have to say, if your body rejected an eyebrow piercing, you're going to have a very, very hard time keeping a surface barbell from rejecting.
Not much can look uglier than a failed surface piercing scar. Keep that in mind. Example: http://www.bmezine.com/news/pubring/20050417-3.jpg
I wouldn't take the risk if my body reacted that way, but that's just me. Good luck.

I would be damn sure to check out the person doing the piercing. Do they work out of a business or out of their home? If it is out of their home RUN!!! I am not sure that you would have any problems piercing your neck just because your eyebrow piercing was rejected. Different areas and all.., ask the person performing the piercing. I haven't seen the back of someones neck pierced so I am alittle curious about that. If this is what you want to do then do it. Please don't think I am being judgmental or anything but, how did this idea come about? Did you see someone else with this or something? I am just curious.

I always thought piercings were attractive and I especially love nape piercings. I say go for it! Like everyone else says you can either get two dermal implants or a regular bar. Last night I saw this girl with her nape pierced and I asked her how much it hurt, etc, and she said it didn't hurt and she also tugged on the jewelry to show that it was some sort of silicone/fish-line looking thing instead of metal. I'm not entirely sure what it was or if it was safe but it certainly was interesting and looked easier to heal than a metal bar. ps: four piercings is not too much. I have ten right now. It all depends on the person.

I am *so* surprised at the general negativity here towards this question that I just had to toss in my two bits....
Nape piercings are lovely -- I'd get one myself, but my workplace has restrictions on visible piercings. If you want a piercing, make a list of your questions/concerns and go chat up your piercer. Any reputable piercer will take the time to answer your questions and discuss concerns such as rejection, infection, and complications.
A piercing rejects or migrates (grows out) because there is a problem with *that* piercing, not because your body can't hold piercings at all. Your eyebrow piercing may have failed due to irritation/injury, an allergy to the metal, shallow placement...or any number of other reasons.
Visit Body Modification eZine ( www.bmezine.com ) and look under Body Piercing Photos/Stories for a link to "Surface" piercings. On the lower right of that page is a link to first-hand accounts of surface (including nape) piercings. I'd also suggest browsing around the BME site, especially the BME Encyclopedia for info on rejection/migration, nerve damage risks, and on nape piercings.

It has been done before by many people. I suggest calling up some piercing places in your area and ask if they do this kind of piercing. Its called a nape piercing. There is the possibility that since your eyebrow rejected a piercing that this piercing my be rejected too, but whatever, its your body. As long as you know that thats a realistic consequence, then go for it. You can always take it out. Since its a suface piercing, there should be no risk to being paralyzed or for any real nerve damage.Make sure the person knows what they are doing and make sure the needle is clean because getting an infection in this area would be very dangerous! Take care of it well.

There is a risk of paraylisis, actually, since it is so close to the spine.
I don't necessarily think that because your eyebrow rejected a piercing, your neck will, also. My nose actually rejected a piercing, and I have other piercings. So i'd say ask the piercer that is going to do it. They have a lot more knoweledge than I do.
Here are a few sites, if you're interested.
This one isn't very extensive. Still helpful:
http://uistudenthealth.com/question/default.asp?asgid=19&agid=4&id=677
This one is someone's experience getting it pierced, in case you were wondering abut the pain or aftercare involved:
http://www.bmezine.com/pierce/11-surface/A60906/srfistha.html
Sorry if I wasn't much of a help. I hope it works out good for you, though. That's a really cool place to get a piercing. I was actually interested in them before, but I got too scared of the paraylisis risk.

hey so i got mine dun about 2 weeks ago
it was kind of an impulse thing 4 me but i dont regret it at all! it amazing and it can be a piercing jst 4 u or one u can share and show off
iv had quite a few piercings (26) including 4 surface 1 of which rejected due to my cr*p choice in place -my wrist - probably the most caught part of your body bt i loved it and rlly miss it :(
neways rejection is due to improper placement and/or aftercare
b aware that surface piercings r more likely 2 reject so u need 2 watch out for any abnormal redness - it is likely 2 b red around the balls for up to 3 months after piercing if u see anything worse then go c ur piercer as soon as + s/he will tell u what 2 do or if its ok
cant rlly tell u pros + cons rlly ..
+it looks cute as
-possibility of rejection
+u can choose when 2 hide/show it off
..
about the nerves thing . . this is jst me but unless ur skin and bones ull have more than enuff skin 2 cope with a safe piercing-the staple surface bars used only go about 2-3 mm under ur skin as far as i know ur spinal chord+nerves r deeper in + protected by muscle + skin so unless ur piercer starts stabbing u then u shud b ok
also a question i get asked alot is whether u catch it on stuff + u rlly dont. i cant feel it in my sleep even on the first night + im a big mover also when brushing/straightening ur hair u dont naturally scrape te brush against ur neck so as long as u dont start u shud b fine - as 4 hair cuts jst tell ur hairdresser in advance - not as an afterthought as s/he catches it - its not a 'normal' piercing so u can bet they wont b expecting it!
hope this helps + gud luck xx

Ouch!
Well, I'm not really the one to ask since I only have my ears pierced, but I'll give my advice...
Ask a piercing parlour if they reccomend it and tell them about your eyebrow incident...all I can say...If it would mess with your nerves, piercing the back of your neck would be illegal.

If your body rejected a piercing once, it's very likely it will reject it again .. no matter >where< the piercing is. You might want to reconsider the piercing. Ask a professional what they think.
