My 13 week old kitten seems to be losing weight, and I can't work out why. He has never been outside, and was de-wormed at a few weeks old and at 8 weeks. He is eating well, his poos are normal and solid (with no obvious signs of worms). He is happy and still leaping around as normal. His fur is still nice and shiny, his nose is damp, his eyes are clear. But I'm sure he's thinner than he was just a week ago. I will take him to the vet in a few days, after xmas, but just wondering if anyone has any bright ideas? (Bear in mind he has NEVER been outside OR met another cat since he left home). Thanks

Your Kitten is very lucky! He has a caring person who knows the best life is an indoor life! You have him on a great worming schedule, and I'm sure his feed is the nicest as well. Are you thinking what i am thinking, that your boy is becoming more active and burning off his weight? Kittens do not have a bank of body fat to burn off. Thus your only recourse is to double check with your vet that his food is rich enough in the vitamins he might want at this phase of growth, and be certain there are no other medical reasons. With that shiny coat and joy of life, my bet is he just wants a nice vitamin supplement to boost up his busy kitten metabolism. Best of luck to you both.

If he's not been wormed since a few weeks old, do him again. Kittens need to be wormed regularly to make sure all worms are killed - wormers do not treat worm eggs so after one dose they can still hatch and cause problems. Worm at 2, 5, 8 and 12 weeks of age, then monthly until 6 months of age and every 3 months after that. This is especially important if you have children in the house.

The other thing to consider is what type of food your kitten is on, make sure it's a good quality kitten food.

I'd probably still get your kittten checked by a vet, if he's not been vaccinated yet he'll need to be done antway.

have you checked for Fleas?
My kitten had them, and they made him v weak.
If your cat is eating well, seems happy and doing daily wee/poo then he sounds ok.
Try using kitchen scales to keep a record of his weight over the next week. This will either confirm your observation or give you peace of mind.
I hope he is ok.

Your kitty may be running around now, more than he ever did before and is losing that baby fat. If you don't suspect worms, and as long as he's eating, then you should be fine. It sounds like you're going to be a good person for your kitty to have. I really don't feel that anything is wrong. Best of luck to you.

It could just be that he is getting taller and more active, so appears thinner, but you are very wise to have him checked out by the vet, just in case. Good luck to you and kitty!
