10% alcohol. Therefore 200 proof is pure grain alcohol

proof is twice its percentage, so:
20 proof = 10%

10% alcohol by volume is typical of a barleywine (really potent beer) or a low alcohol wine (typically 12-15%)

its 10 percent alcohol whatever proof it is you divide it by 2 and thats the percentage of actual alcohol is in it
