my ring is, the jeweler said the finish helps to keep the 14k white gold from looking tarnished and gives it more shine. i think he said depending on wear every five years or so. i never had it done until last year when i got it re sized and cleaned and finished and it was only like $200.00. looks great too.

A white gold ring costs about $40 to get redipped. But honestly if your jeweler sells quality gold then you may not need to get it redipped that often. I have a white gold and diamond set ring that my boyfriend bought me 3 years ago. I have never had it redipped and it looks beautiful. I invested in a good gold polishing cloth and polish it up every few weeks but it still looks lovely. I have no need so far to get it redipped even after wearing it every day for the past three years, in the ocean, in the shower and in the chlorine pool. My engagement ring is 18 kt white gold and still looks brand new. I think the amount of dipping needed depends on your skin and the acids in it. However white gold stays white even if you dont get it redipped, it just can get a little less shiny. More silver than white. Some people seem to think white gold is going to turn into yellow gold but this is not true. White gold is white all the way thru, not yellow gold dipped in rhodium.

I have had a white gold engagement ring for about 1.5 years now, I have had it rhodium platted once, but it really all depends on the Ph balance of your skin, some peoples are higher than others and have to get it platted over and over. It normally will cost between $80-100 to get it done. Even with platinum you have to get it done sometimes. The best metal now is paladium, its between gold and platinum in prices but will never yellow or lose its shine, and is just as strong as platinum, without the cost of it.

Do you mean white gold? White gold has a plating, which I believe is rhodium. Every few years or so you'll need to replate, depending on how much it has worn away. The cost of replating it is little compared to the price of a platinum ring.

white gold is almost always plated with rhodium to protect the finish. as for the rest - I've only had mine a few months, so I don't know about how often it has to be replated - but with white gold rings, it is part of the cost of the ring.

I just got my ring a couple months ago, so I haven't had to get it re-plated yet (its white gold) but I did get a warranty with my ring for about $70, and it covers the cost of the re-plating. I got my ring from Belden's.

The ring is supposed to represent your fiance's vow and pledge to you. Do you really want to have a ring that tarnishes and must be replated? If you're fiance can't afford to get a decent engagement ring, perhaps you should forgo having an engagement ring and make sure that your wedding band will at least stand the test of time.

too cheap looking; go for traditional yellow gold. Platinum is just a current fad and won't last long.
