Get a handfed cockatiel. I have one and she is lots of fun. They are great starter birds. Make sure it is handfed. The cockatiel gives you more for your money. They are not $1000.00, but they do talk and do tricks.

It would all depends upon what you are looking for, if it is the wonderful sound of a bird choose a singing canary if it is ease of care try a zebra finch or a parakeet if you want companionship try parakeet, cockateil, or peach faced love birds, if you want a talking bird try any parrot from small to large. I would take a while and think about what you want in a bird and how much time you have to devote to your bird then search for a bird that fits that catagory. I have had most of the birds I have mentioned above and I really couldn't recommend any one over the other each bird has it's pro's.... Good Luck!

The best pet for children or people new to keeping birds is the common parakeet. They're hardy, intelligent, and require less space and maintenance than larger bird species. Most are happy with just whistling and singing, but some will speak a word or two. Average life expectancy: 12-14 years

Other good first-time birds are cockatiels, sun conures, parrotlets, and African greys (though these need a LOT of stimulation, and are a huge commitment since they live 50-70 years).

I think a lovebird is good because I have a love bird :)
They are very talented, my love bird♥ learned how to go up
the stairs and into her cage, and when to go upstairs for bed at a certain time. If you have them long enough, they can learn alot just how my bird did. But sometimes loves birds need a mate or someone to play with. If having more than one bird is complicated for you then try getting one bird with a mirror in its cage so it wont be alone all the way. My bird is alone but she has us to keep her company.☺

Happy Holidays!♥

Lovebirds make wonderful pets! You only need 1. A nice roomy cage like 18x18x18 with a plastic bottom tray for easy cleaning.

They eat cockatiel seed mix and Zupreem pellets and lots of clean water.
I would find a breeder in your area so you can get a nice baby. Join a bird club, they are great sources of information and local help.
Good luck!

Every love bired I have known was completely beyond help. I've heard good stories, but my experience begs to differ.

Cockatiels would be the "best" choice. They're small, low maintinance, come in many colors, and all the ones that I've known have actually been affectionate.

I'm totally partial to the gigantic birds, so I'ma say go with a blue and gold macaw.

You cannot just say you want a bird! Like what is your price range? Size preference? How many? Just as a overall bird type then the best one is a cockatiel...which needs a lot of attention but a best pet.

depends if you want to basically watch and listen or have it be more of a pet. Canaries and finches are great to just enjoy watching and listening to them sing - as big a cage as you can afford is good.

Love birds are beautiful and great to watch but less interact less then other larger birds

For a bird you can interact with more a parakeet, english budgie or cockatiel are good choices for a first time bird owner.

If you like bird song get a male and female canary, one of ours is still going strong after 10 years. We've got a cat that learned to live w. them (after 3 years of Sylvesterising)

I have a Solomon Island Eclectus. It is a very sweet bird. It can sometimes be loud though. I bought him from this breeder, avesint.com. They also have a chart which shows what bird would be best for you at http://avesint.com/choosing.html
Hope that helps!
