The traditional wedding chorus has cues for the attendees to stand and honor the bride...so if you aren't using it the officiant needs to instruct and direct so it's not clumsy and noisy as the bride enters. That is the biggest reason for sticking with the traditional processional even in a non-traditional service.
As for alternatives...on the funny-interesting side, I've heard "Hallalujah Chorus", The themes from "Peanuts", "2001: A Space Oddessy". On the formal side, "Ode to Joy" by Beethoven (9th Symphony), "Air" by Handel or "Brandenburg No 3" by Bach. and finally, serious and contemporary "Come Away With Me" (Norah Jones), "What A Wonderful World" (Louis Armstrong), "At Last" (Etta James) or "Unforgettable" (Nat King Cole)
Hope that gives you some ideas!!!

There are a few different songs you can use since it seems like you are trying NOT to do the usual/traditional. There is a song called Setembro (Brazilian Wedding Song) from Back on the block , Sister Rose by Kenny G, By your side by Sade, Spend My Life With You by Eric Benet and Tamia, It Had To Be You by Harry Connick Jr. But this is my ALL TIME FAVORITE SONG
We Must Be In Love - Pure Soul. Good luck finding the song you are looking for.
All the link listed below play the ENTIRE song so you can get an idea of the song.

I have never once heard of Greensleeves being played as a processional song. Canon In D is a very popular choice though.
Most brides walk down the aisle to whatever they want. It can have lyrics or not. It can be a favorite classical piece or something from a movie soundtrack. The possibilities are endless.

I think you mean Pachebel's Canon in D as the processional. :)
Personally, my plan, for whenever I get married, is to get married at a Zoo. My bridesmaids will RUN down the aisle to Flight of the Bumblebee and then i will walk down the aisle to the jaws theme song, by John Williams.
regarding Classical pieces, I have also heard Primavera used, and once I heard Trans Siberian orchestra at a holiday wedding..that was cool. :)

Its your wedding, choose something that is special to you. There are beautiful songs by Dave Matthews, Ella Fitzgerald, Billy Holiday, but one of the most beautiful processions I've seen has been to music from the movie Amistad (not the best movie a wedding i realize, but still it was really powerful!)

I wanted to walk down the aisle to Bolero; but, my family said NO! I like the song. It sounds like it is ushering in a momentus event. They thought I was just being silly and that I wanted it to sound like it was my fiance's death march. I really thought it would be different and suited my personality much better. Oh well, we ended up getting a divorce nine years later.

My best friend walked down the aisle to "From This Moment" by Shania Twain. It was perfect.

If it's a before noon wedding in a Church or at least a somewhat religious wedding, I like "Morning Has Broken" by Cats Stevens.
