Over the past few years, I've known a lot of dog owners who insist that their dog has food allergies, and some of them go so far as to cook their dog's meals.

I know that many brands of dog food contain not-so-desirable ingredients. But are actually ALLERGIES to these foods really that common?

Food allergies are very common in dogs. Some breeds are more prone to others and some never get allergies.
The food you buy from the grocery store, farm supply, even your vet contain nothing but fillers and ingrediants that are not good for your dog like diseased livestock, road kill, euthanized dogs and cats, chicken feathers and beaks.....These ingrediants are by no means good for your dog and can cause cancer, allergies, even other health factors. Corn is a big contributing factor in allergies also.which any of the commercialized over rated over advertised foods are full of junk.
Science diet is recommended by the vet...............
Science diet is a crappy junk food...........................
The reason the vets do recommend this food is they get a 40 percent profit on what they sell, they do not promote it because of the nutritional factor, it is for the profit. They are not PET NUTRITIONISTS they are PET DOCTORS>>>>>>>>>

Good dog foods are the all natural kind. I prefer the raw diet, but there are good dog foods on the market which a few of them are canidae, wellness, solid gold, california natural and innova.
I believe pets are like people, if people eat nothing but junk food that is unhealthy...........
If your dog eats junk food that is unhealthy................
So many people are fooled by the advertisements of a good quality dog food. If it is over advertised it is to sell you and make you believe it is a good diet to feed your dog, when in all truth feeding the junk in the food is not good for your dog and it can cause many health factors.............. ALLERGIES is one of the biggest...................

Allegies are becoming more prevalent. It's not common, but it's not rare either.
Usually dogs with food allergies are able to tolerate a lamb and rice diet. If not, the owners have to figure out what the dog tolerates best.
Intolerance to certain ingredients is not the same as an allergy.

Unfortunately, food allergies seem to be more and more common these days. You need to feed a dog a high quality (as natural as possible) dog food if they exhibit allergy symptoms. One person mentioned lamb and rice formula. An excellent food but some dogs cannot even digest hat properly so you may have to look into a "fish and sweet potato" diet or something along those lines. There are MANY EXCELLENT foods available.
I am fortunate bacause I have 4 dogs and none exhibit any food allergies. One of the main causes can be "wheat" so you may want to look for a "wheat free" food and treats.
Also, if you can afford it, depending on the size of the dog, there are commercial frozen "raw food" diets available. You thaw out the raw diet and feed it to them. It is GREAT for their coats and teeth but if you have large dogs, it becomes very expensive.
I groom dogs for a living and I see MANY dogs that come to the shop who require special shampoos, etc (prescribed by vets) since the owners will not change the dog's diet. "Fluffy loves her food and treats" is what I hear. They don't want to change. However, it makes it harder on the dogs and more expensive in the long run for owners.
Good luck

Aging can also play a factor in allergies. At about 3 years, my dog began having trouble keeping his dry kibble down. After consulting the vet, we switched to a "sensitive stomach" formula...no more problems.

He is now 9, and in the past year or so, we have found that he cannot tolerate other foods (including senior dog food) or fancy biscuits. We've had 2 other dogs with no stomach problems.

My daughter is allergic to milk, she is violently sick if she has anything which contains it. My son is allergic to milk and wheat he has alot of abdominal pain if he has them, also before he went on the wheat free diet he had really bad eczema and it went away within a few days of being wheat free. I have heard of children who have anaphaltic shock if they get milk so I consider it a good thing my two just throw up or have to run to the toilet if they accidently have milk.

My pitbull has some kind of skin alergy. When I asked the vet about it she said that it was very common in pitbulls and that usually it was caused by corn or chicken. I dont think that is the case with my dog though because I tried everything and he still has bumps on his skin.
