how can I adjust how many icons are on my right hand bottom tray?

I have got 14 icons I don't use them all I have no idea where to go to see about turning them off since I don't use them. maybe like a folder or something on the control panel.

and yes I already right clicked & closed the ones that would let me close them.

open each application and under options or properties unselect the put icon in or start program when windows start.

this will keep them from running in the back ground and putting their icon in the quick start area.

there is also a folder called startup in your programs folder that will have some of these programs.

Yes, sometimes you can ask an app to not autostart when windows starts; a few will actually give you that option and continue to comply with your instructions forever but MANY won't. Yes a few apps are kind enough to have a shortcut in the startup folder but MANY aren't. You could also see what stuff boots up at startup by just left clicking on the start button and running msconfig. However, although most of these applets etc do not need to run at startup - a few do, so you don't want to just willy-nilly prohibit all from doing so! I recommend you use WinPatrol (http://www.winpatrol.com/) to keep control of this situation and google each executable that tries to get on the startup bandwagon.

You will want to do start>run>msconfig (you type that in). then go to the startup folder on the right. Make sure you read through what each one is carefully, so that you don't accidentally close down something you need, like your antivirus software.

Rightclick your taskbar, go to properties, and under notification area, click on customize, where you can choose which ones are always shown, which ones are always hidden, and which ones hide after inactivity.
