Talk to your vet's office about payment plans, post-dated checks, bartering (swapping labour for vet bills, such as cleaning around the office or helping with an adoption fair), and other options. It doesn't hurt to ask!

Also, give your local humane society a call and ask if they have a low-cost vet available. Call local dog rescue groups, and see if they will trade your help with their group for their helping you with vet bills.

If all else fails, sell items of value or turn off your computer, disconnect from the Internet, and use the money to pay the bills.

There are groups out there that will help you. One of the most effective groups is http://www.imom.org/. They screen their applicants carefully, but they can help if you qualify.

If you live close to a vet school, that is another opportunity available for you. Getting a second vet's opinion is also a way to go. The second vet might be a bit less expensive than the first. Look into Internet vets that do phone consults. You need a credit card, but you can obtain some vital help in a dire situation. Of course the best way is to have a vet look at your cat, and diagnose the problem, offer solutions. Don’t bother the vet with questions about how you are going to pay for it, that’s why he hires an office staff. Find the office manager and sit down calmly and find out your options.

Another means to consider is to stop unnecessary spending for awhile. I am not saying deprive yourself permanently of perks or pleasures, but if you would for example, quit smoking or cut down, stop drinking soda pop, don’t go out to fast food places or restaurants, or rent videos, or go to movies for a few months and put that amount into a special pet fund, think of how far ahead of the game you would be. Not buying that new pair of shoes, that you don't really need but you want and just exercising caution when spending would help immensely to give you a nest egg that you can fall back on.

First, what is it that is wrong with him? Change vets. If the second vet does not help him any more than the first, have him put to sleep. Keeping any animal alive that is desparately ill can be cruel.

I had a cat that was like a child to me. She was the most wonderful cat ever. She developed a kidney disorder and I could not afford the cost of dialysis. The vet told me that the dialysis would be costly and hard on her. She was very shy with other people. So, it would be kinder to let her go. I still grieve her. But, death is a part of life.

After time has passed, go to a shelter and save the life of another dog. Keeping your dog alive could be more for you than for the dog. Let him go.

i understand what you mean.
i have a dog and cos we have family problems at home, once he came in2 our live he changed the atmosphere to a very happy 1.
he is lke my bro nd i he brings so much comfort when there are problems.

i rekon that u should ask your family for money if they can help. also you should watch what your dog eats and what he does everyday and also make sure hes up to date with his injections and tablets every month.

if you keep everything to like a routine then maybe he wont get sick anymore or something.orry but i dont know much more. what i have said is my opinion and good luck

merri xmas and happy new year.

The first and foremost things that you do not mention are what exactly are the dogs medical issues according to your vet and what is the age of your dog? Without having those key pieces or information, it is very hard to know where to start my answer.
If you update, I will try my best to make reasonable suggestions. Also, where do you live....in the city...in the country...what type of climate?

PetsMart has some kind of plan that you pay like 200 bucks upfront than it is like 20 bucks a month and you can take your dog up there as much as you like. I think also you get 10 percent discount on meds. Might be worth looking into, good luck.

Don't listen to "pinkdenial"....you cannot get insurance on pre-exsisting conditions!!!! Even if they were "resolved", the premiums would be HUGE!!!!!!!!
Look into some of the other options mentioned. Pets can be very expensive!!!!

most pet insurance companies won't insure your dog for a preexisting condition. there's a company called care credit, it's like a credit card for your pets care. that way you can make payments instead of paying all at once.
