We had a Corgi at our shelter with the same issue. The vet said it was caused by too much "creatinin"; the skin on her nose and on the pads of her feet was excessively thick. It was a genetic trait that could not be counteracted. So her nose was always dry and cracked, but we made sure it stayed clean and never got so dry it bled by putting neosporin on the spots whenever they got real dry.

Before you do anything else, take your dog to the vet, and see what's causing the dryness. If you start piling on vaseline or medications, you may do the dog more damage than good.

There are a number of thing's that can cause a dry, crusty nose on a dog ranging from autoimmune diseases, infections or simple crusting from excessive rooting around in the dirt.

The only way to find out is to have your vet see your dog.

I have a 4 yr old pom and her nose is ok. You might want to get it checked out to see what's causing it. I really don't think it's normal
