why do you buy presents for your family and friends instead of giving the money to a church where the poor, and less fortunate can be helped. I am a Christian and I do celebrate Christmas so don't start in on me. Merry Christmas, and Happy Holidays.

Christmas is about Jesus in name only. Its an ancient Pagan festival day. Hijacked by the church along with its rituals of feasting, drinking, gifting etc. Christians should find another day to remenber Jesus on as it has nothing at all to do with him and nor does Easter.

Well those who really believe that Jesus was born on December 25th I have to wonder about, because it's just a holiday that takes the place of the Winter Solstice celebration of all sorts of civilizations (pagans, Romans etc.) Christians if you haven't noticed have this tendency to be hypocritical (I'm Christian by the way, but let the bashing being anyway)...but in all fairness all the other religions what preach peace and love and forgiveness (which is basically all of them) don't really practice what they preach (hey...look at the wars!!!) So why should Christmas be any different??? Some people give money to the Church (at midnight mass and such, that's the whole point of passing the plate around) and other do Toys for Tots and other such charities. Granted the world would be a better place if EVERYONE who CAN donate money, toys, food, clothes etc. did.

Sue, the only thing I can say is that we are the ones that have caused others to act the way they do. We have (as you say) buy for those who already have instead of concentrating on the less fortunate. What has happened is that the true meaning of Christmas is lost (it has gotten so commercialized) that everyone has caught up in the festivity and reaching the point where we have even excluding Him out of the whole picture [instead of writing and saying CHRISTmas it is now X-Mas - we have allowed others to exclude Christ out of His own birthday celebration] this is something to think about Sue - it is very serious.

Yes! Christmas is not a Christian Holiday, but as Christians we can remember and deplay our love for Christ any day.
Dec 25th was not at all Jesus' Birthday. He was actuallt born around Oct 30th or 31st. In order to understand this you would have to read and date back to his birth and the birth of John. Rememer the lady who was also with child and known as barren.
Also shepards did not watch their flock by night in the winter. They hearded them in stables. If Christ were to have been born in the winter there would have been no manger or stable available either. Also the reason they travel was to be taxed remember. Tax season was already over in their times if it would have been December. In order for this all to make since you would have to us the Jewish Calender, which was used then, remember our calander did not exist then.
The whole holiday is actually a pagan holiday called Yule, which was later changed to Christ's Mass by the Roman Catholic church to control the pagan worship, then later became Christmas and know as a Christian Holiday. I too am a firm believer in Jesus Christ. As Christians we can worship, rememevr and celebrate Christ and all He has done for us, at anytime. Just remember in order to keep this a Christian Holiday, not to get all wrapped up in the World and Social "politics" of Christmas or what has sadly become "X-mas" in Satan's attempt to keep Christ out of CHRISTmas.

I hope this helps.

there is nothing wrong with traditions, as long as they do not profane God. when people were just beginning to evangelize christianity, they had to start a new culture for the civilisations they came into contact with--customs, feasts, gods, etc. so, instead of making it really tough for them, they changed or began traditions that weren't written in stone--such as the christmas tree, the yule log, and dec. 25. this process is called inculturation, and it's an important part of evangelisation. it's not softening the faith or reverting to paganism, just turning a bad thing into a good thing. i do think, however, that it's sad how people blindly follow traditions without even knowing their significance. for example, santa is the product of a publicity campaign. SAINT NICHOLAS' feast day is on dec. 6th and has NOTHING to do with Christmas.

I don't. My celebration is through listening and sharing gospel songs, about his birth. Christmas is a day sat aside to honor his brithday. You want find a Christmas tree or one Christmas light, in my house, and we still celebrate his birthday. Not with presents and gifts, but his love.

But we do say Merry Chirstmas to every stranger we meet.

Merry Christmas and may God bless you with his grace, love and mercy, and shine forth joy and gladness in your heart, in Jesus name.

We are allowed to give our gifts and of ourselves to whom we choose yes? We do have free choice? If you want to give to those who you do not know, and are less fortunate...you are welcome to do so...no one is stopping you, and many will help you. But, you are approaching this as though the rest of us are not seeing the true meaning of Christmas if we give to our families. I would be very, very careful about that kind of attitude, or you may find that you have very few friends and family around you. You do not want to bite the hands that feed and love you by shaming them. Rather inspire and encourage others by your acts of love and decency, ok? Ask people to help in a cause you lead...

I believe Jesus is the reason for the Season.
Christmas is NOT HIS birthday. It is the day his birth is COMMEMORATED ON!

We buy minimal present for each other.

You wrote"s instead of giving the money to a church where the poor, and less fortunate can be helped"".

We do just that. BUT WHAT BUSINESS IS IT OF YOURS!!!!!!!!!

Christmas is the celebration of the birth of one whose birthday is actually later in the year. It was placed in December to block out the Pagans ritualistic Winter Solstice and Yule festivals.
