I am on doxy 100mg 2x/day for Lyme disease. I am an extremely active 34 year old male, 190lbs. It is my understanding that this is a somewhat conservative dosage, i.e. this is not an aggressive dosage.

Is there any way that doxy can be acting as an antidepressant, where it "cures" my imaginary symptoms of Lyme? This is what my neurologist suggested. My symptoms in the past include positive blood test, Bell's palsy, dilated pupils etc. Doxy always cures my symptoms short term, but they always return.

I find it absurd that my neuro is suggesting I drop the antibiotic regimen and pursue a psychological approach, i.e. true antidepressant.

Time to find a new Doc?

You tested positive for Lymes disease, and he wants you to discontinue antibiotics? I think you should get yourself a DR. that specializes in Internal medicine. And after the Lymes Disease is gone then evaluate if you still need a neurologist. But, definitely not the same one! You do understand it sometimes can take yrs to get rid of Lymes disease symptoms?...Personally I think he's an idiot . Best wishes, I hope you have a speedy recovery..

Since this infection has been going on for awhile doxcycline is inadequate. You need to see an infectious disease specialist and get on a regimen of different antibiotics or the Lyme disease has been cured. Even with the Lyme disease cured there are still other illnesses that can be present. There is such a thing as chronic Lyme disease, but you really need to see a specialist.
