If they have one of the cat/kitten socialization rooms in the shelter, walk in and see which one walks up to you first. If not, walk through the cat room waving a string in front of each cage. Pick the one that sticks its paws through the bars to bat at you!

Pick a black one - they have the hardest chance of getting adopted. I'd also suggest an adult, for the same reason.

What breed you get doesn't really matter;if you're after a purebred, good luck finding one at a shelter. But I do have an idea for you though; instead of getting a kitten, adopt an older cat or one that's been there for awhile. Everybody wants a kitten and they get adopted fast. The problem with that is, no one even looks at the older cats and the poor things don't even have a chance at getting a home. Older cats can make just as good a pets as kittens. They probably already have their shots and are litter box trained and are used to people. Some cats have been in shelters for a couple of years and kittens get adopted in a few days. It's just an idea. I did it 8 years ago and never regretted it!

Get the one you fall in love with, that is social, friendly and generally good with other cats or not depends on what you want and that's a moggie =D moggies make great pets I own two beautiful moggies. If they are out of kittens don't be sad look around ad give the older cats a chance because kittens will always get adopted but older cats don't because they are not cute or some rubbish both y cats I got from a shelter at 3 (But we got them about 6 years apart) and they are great and our new one is still active.

Good Luck.

Wishing you and your future kitten a Happy New Year

Little tip on New Years eve keep your new kitten in because if there's any fireworks around she may get scared and run and get lost so unless she's supervised keep her in at night on New Years eve.

If you are going to adopt a kitten, pick a kitten that comes up to you when you go near him or her. That means the kitten is not shy and will bond with you when you bring him or her home. That's how I found my Tika.

Adult cats are great too. But make sure you know their temperament, as well as any special needs they might have(some adult cats end up in shelters due to health problems).

Have fun picking your new friend!

It depends on what type of person you are because different breeds of cat have different temperaments. For example, abyssinian cats are known to be active, alert, and gentle household companions while burmese cats are relaxed, friendly and extremely vocal. If you want a good lap cat to cuddle and play with, try a birman, cornish rex, havana brown, or a siamese. I have an abyssinian by the way. :)

consider if you want a kitten or an older cat. older cats are really cool and have a harder time getting adopted.

i'd go for the cat that you like the best, personality wise. it can be hard to tell when the cats are in an unfamiliar environment, all in cages and afraid.

look for one who is active and wants to play. i like the string idea someone else posted.

I would get a short haired cat, if you don't like animal hair all over. And get a cat that you like, one that has unique colors and a nice temper.

whatever kind strikes your fancy if you dont want to have to clean up hair then get a short hair, it mainly depends on which ones they have and which one you think would make the best pet for you.

Geez, depends on what kinds are there. I'm leaning toward one without the mange.
