Madison Square Garden is named for the area of Manhattan it's located in. Madison Square. The building itself is round. Many areas of Mahattan are called squares. Example: Time Square, Washington Square. Not confusing... unless someone builds a round building in one and names it for the area.

Madison Square Garden is an arena used for a variety of events, most notably professional basketball and hockey but also many concerts, boxing, the circus, even dog shows. The arena building is sort of an oval shape. There is a rectangualr office building that is part of the same complex. It is called "Square" because it is named for Madison Square, a place in New York City (where Broadway crosses FIfth Ave. at 23rd St.) but the Garden is not there! The current building is the fourth building to be called by the same name -- the first two buildings were actually at Madison Square (on the site where the New York Life Building is today - 26th and Madison). The present Garden was built back in the mid 1960's right on top of Pennsylvania Station (7th Ave. between 31st and 33rd St.).

maximum suitable place to stay is the pink Roof hotel on W.thirty second between Broadway and 5th highway. that is on the Korea city highway, meaning 24 hour bars, eating place - great scene. Plus that is approximately one highway far off from MSG and a million block from usher in sq. subway. At approximately $a hundred and fifty a night, you could no longer come across a miles better hotel in a miles better area for a miles better fee. The rooms have been recently renovated and so which you get the flat-panel television, new bogs, and loose (albeit common) continental breakfast. The Penn is a sell off, stay away....
