I couldn't agree with you more. Someone else who did demonstrate what they believed in: Mother Theresa. She didn't just give lip service about feeding and clothing the poor, she actually lived among them and did it.

I am an economist and I agree with the above, your statement reflects ignorance. The Catholic Church, and particularly the Church of Rome, spends extraordinary amounts on charity. Before there was a United Nations relief program there was Rome. When the Palestinians became refugees it was Rome that fed them. More importantly, you believe Rome could sell its assets and give them away. To whom would it sell them? A government? Would you personally pay for the Vatican? Further, while the Catholic Church collectively probably holds more assets than any other entity, to whome would they sell them. The Walton family owns 40% of Walmart. At recent closing prices they are worth $140 billion. No one on Earth has that much money or even close to it. Who can the Walton family sell their holdings to? Even the United States government would find it challenging to pay to buy Walmart. If we presume the Catholic Church is many times that amount of money, who will buy it? Remember Catholics make up about 20% of the planet. Only the Peoples Republic of China is larger only by a little. If the Orthodox reunite with Rome as it appears may happen, it will be much larger than Communist China. For it to be meaningful it will have to sell its stuff to non-Catholics and non-Catholic rich at that. If you have any suggestions on how to do it without devastating the world economy let the professional economists know, we would love to find out how. You will get a Nobel prize out of it too.

There are hundreds upon HUNDREDS of Catholic charities that do this. There's a guy in my hometown of San Diego named Fr. Joe Carroll who operates a homeless shelter for the homeless to help them to be more independent, schooling for homeless kids, etc. It's called Father Joe's Village and unfortunately, some people believe it's falling victim to a lot of bureaucratic schtick.
The pople is no longer surrounded by gold and money. If this were the 15th and 16th centuries, yes, the pope would be swimming in riches. However, these "riches" nowadays are in museums all over Rome.

The Pope produces the poor. How?
With is condemnation of birth control.
Why?
The answer is simple. He wants his empire to grow even bigger. The only folks that join the Catholic Church are young children of Catholic parents, or orphanages that are run By Catholic Nuns.
The Pope depends on poor people and large families for the Catholic Church to exist.

>>>he needs to grow spiritually and help thje poorer people of this world>>>
This comment is fraught with ignorance -- it displays an utter lack of knowledge of the fact that the Roman Catholic Church is the single largest nongovernmental provider of charity and humanitarianism on this planet.
Do a little research first, before drawing conclusions that have no basis in fact.

The pope may have read it, but Jesus is who commands it. I am actually glad and very proud of you for noticing all the "splendor"...you should have little chance of jumping on anybody's bandwagon, or joining anybody's "fan club"..
People are fallible- NEVER forget that. However, there is One who isn't.....
Love people in spite of themselves, but understand-
Jesus is the ONLY answer.
