i am installing it on a 79 Dodge RamCharger with a 360 the tach has 4 wires red, black, green, white.

black = ground
red = 12 volt operated by ignition switch
white = instrunent panel lighting wire
green = ignition coil negative
also look on the back of your tachometer for number of cylinders switch 4 6 8

red= power(to battery or fuse box), black= ground, #3 for light on tach, #4 to distributor (try hooking these ones to the distributor individually to find which one is correct, not to a power source thinking its the light 'cause you'll fry the tach, safest to trouble shoot to the distributor)

4 wires consist of neg, positve, tach light & the last one is connected to your distributor.
