It isn't just church clocks...someone gave me a wall clock with a cat on it, and the four is IIII. Seems wrong to me, and I don't know the reason for it. Both of my sons were educated about Roman Numerals, and we all know that four is IV, one before five. It annoys us, so I didn't put up the cat clock.

As [heart] Lisa notes, it's not just church clocks. It is tradition (and if it makes you feel better, look for the clocks that use IV - they are 'wrong' - I did see some Russian wristwatches that did it once but never again).

Wow....that's kinda freaky...never have seen that. Either a clock will have all Roman numerals or all Arabic numerals...strange to mix the two.
