A student visa isn't a resident visa using part of the quota for residents, so time on a student visa doesn't count towards waiting time for citizenship.
You need a resident visa and to be a permenant resident for (usually) 5 years before you can take the test.
A lot more want to come than we take, but there are ways. You can try a diversity lottery card, or get your diploma and an H1B visa, etc. Try the immigration web page. However, you are starting from scratch because the deal when you come over on a student visa is that you are going to go back.

its a long process, but it can be done
http://www.cesifo.de/pls/diceguest/download/Mobility/Reg-possi-stud.pdf
(go down to united states)
basically, based on your type of student visa, you can stay in the country 12 to 38 months to find a job. if you do, you can be granted a H1-B visa. (work visa) it can last up to 6 years. you can use that to get a green card through employment based
immigration. then you can work on citizenship when you have that. (see this website for details http://immigration-law.freeadvice.com/citizenship/naturalization_requirements.htm)
it may take you up to 8 years after graduation to do it, but its worth it. if you pick the right Field to work in
(see this website for ideas http://www.foreignborn.com/visas_imm/immigrant_visas/employment_immigration/1employment_immigration.htm)
you have an even easier time. but my best advise is see an immigration layer

Fall in love and get married. But, honestly fall in love. A lot of people use people to get citizenship. Don't make this mistake. Fall in love or ask a really good friend if they would help you out in this way and then try to build a real marriage with this person.

Go to Mexico and become a citizen of Mexico, then cross over into the United States illegally, then contact all the social services, preferably in California, then wait until amnesty is granted to all illegal immigrants and then a time period will be installed for all illegals to apply for citizenship. Good luck,...and you might want to take a course in "Wet-back" English.....

You can't....we're overloaded already.
Stay there.
Haven't you heard.....California last year paid out
for 100,000 illegal immigrants births of their babies....
over $4,000,000.00.
We're broke....best to stay where you are.
