I'm not any kind of health professional, but have you checked to see if you have a thyroid problem? My mother's eyebrows started falling out a few years ago, and her eyelashes were starting to thin out. Eventually, it turned out that she had a hypoactive thyroid gland - she had been tested for it many times before, but apparently they only ran the most common tests and completely missed it. It's apparently quite common in women. I looked it up on the internet and it sounds like this could definitely be something to look into.
I know that often being rough on your eyelashes - curling them, wearing waterproof mascara often, etc - can cause them to thin out. However, it doesn't sound like that's the problem. A thyroid problem wouldn't explain the soreness though - maybe an allergic reaction?

Are you allergic to the mascara? Try Allmay hypoallergenic mascara. every night rub your finger over vaseline and wipe on the lashes in an upward motion. I had an eye infection once and all my lashes fell out. I did this and when they grew back this acts like a conditioner.

This sounds very familiar. You should go to a dr you trust and have them due a CBC and specify you want all tests for your
thyroid and screening for sugar levels. If it is your thyroid, you
will be put on synthroid or the equivalent. If sugar levels, again,
treatable. Mascara should be replaced every 2-3 mos. as bacteria grows in the tube from contact with your eyelashes.

I have a friend that has a condition, I forget what its called, but he lost his eyebrows, lashes, then the hair on his head, then all over his body. I know its very rare, but I recommend consulting a dermatologist.
