I drink about a fifth a day, whether or not its with people or not, i prefer to do it alone...It has never let me to problems but i figure since I am only 20, a lot of problems previously that I had to deal with...and no it is not the typical problems most teens/young adults deal with...I have never been dysfunctional because of my drinking, but since I am drinking so much...

I am not one to judge, but since you asked, I've got a few questions for you.
1- Have you missed work, or school due to your alcohol consumption?
2- Do you feel you can't "make it" through the day without alcohol?
3- Do you crave a drink?
4- Can you go a day without a drink?
5- Do you drink to "make life easier"?
If you've answered yes to 2 or more, then you may have a problem. You are not alone. By admitting you have a problem is half the battle. You drink a fifth daily? Whoa! For how long? Sweetie, you need a break from the bottle. I cannot know if you drink to mask some kind of pain, or if you drink, simply to drink. It is one thing to drink occasionally, but to fall off in it, and do a back stroke in it is quite another. I do recommend you seek guidance through Alcoholics Anonymous, or Al-non. These non for profit organizations can help you get back on the right track if you do have a alcohol problem. There is a world outside of a bottle, it is fresh, un-jaded, waiting for you to explore it. If you need someone to talk to I am here. Feel free to email me. Your life is just beginning, don't let the bottle cloud your view. I am here not to judge, but to listen.

you may not be a alcholic yet .. but your definately heading in that directions.. slow down a bit..you dont have to drink a fifth a day.. you can do a pint if you feel you must drink.. drinking that much will cause you to get uclers and stomach cancer latter on it life.. i know i got a friend who started out the way you did .. he is 45 yrs old and the doctors just told him he had stomach cancer and give him about 5 yrs to live

I can't diagnose you, but I can tell you this: I was drinking just the way you describe when I was 20, and I am an alcoholic. I didn't quit until I was 38, and I can tell you, you wouldn't have wanted to walk in my shoes during the years I drank.

Why don't you check out an AA meeting and see if you relate? It can't hurt . . .

When you feel the bottle sucking out of you instead of you sucking out of it. I dont like to preach but from my experience I was drinking at a good clip from 14 to 23 and did poorly in college because of it and battling streches of unemployment for a couple of years now, I attribute to the period where I was still growing my brain( until 25 ) when the die was caste. even though I havent drank for years the effects remain. Get somebody good to hang with and jetison the hooch. You can do it. Good Luck Merry christmas

A fifth of what? If it's wine no you're not an alcoholic, that just means you're French. If it's hard liquor, you're a sailor. On a serious note, if you think you have a problem then stop.

One drink is not enough and two is too many, cause it leads to three, four, and then a car crash.
