In Revelation 2:12 we read; And to the angel of the church in Pergamos write; These things saith he which hath the "sharp sword with two edges;"

The actual question is two. Who has this sword and what is the purpose of the "edges" of the two edged sword?

Other words; What are there functions?

(Revelation 2:12) Jesus here repeats the description given of him at Revelation 1:16. As Judge and Executioner, he will strike down those who persecute his disciples.

“a sharp, long two-edged sword.” What a fitting feature! For Jesus is the one appointed to pronounce Jehovah’s final judgments against His enemies. Decisive utterances from his mouth result in the execution of all wicked ones.—Revelation 19:13, 15.

Christ has this sword. His Word, His truth cuts both ways.

Heb 4:12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

Eph 6:17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:

The Word(Christ) is a double edged sword, For the Word of God is living and powereful, and sharper than any two edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirits, and joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

one cuts on the way in, the other cuts on the way out.
It is a metaphor, and you have to read the entire story in its context. Don't forget that the verses and chapters were not part of the original scripture, but something they added when canonizing the scriptures.
