It is normal for 3 year olds to exhibit stubborness in many areas of life, including food choices. The so called " terrible twos " should be renamed the " terrible threes!" That is the age when my children were the most difficult ( not including the teen years of course :)
I would keep the candy out of the house as much as possible in order to limit the development of sweet cravings and to ensure an appetite at meal times. Offer your son a variety of foods each day and don't over react if he doesn't eat all of them. Stay relaxed, keep offering balanced choices, and eventually he will try other foods. Try having him "help" make dinner with you and praise his accomplishments when you taste what he helped make. Don't get into a war with him over this; it's just another "stage" of his development. Good luck and enjoy him. They grow up so fast...

Yeah I know why because candy and stuff like that TASTES good. REMOVE the candy and stuff like that from the home and don't offer him any. Offer only good nutirtious foods, if he refuses them then don't make him eat. When he gets hungry enough he will eat what is available.

Well I'm glad it isn't just my kid. Here's what has worked so far for what it's worth :). At meals (breakfast for instance), I do not ask him if he wants waffles, I ask him if he'd like his waffle whole, cut into pieces or into sticks. That way he has power, but it's only in regards to the one item and he doesn't melt down quite so quickly. Also I feed him breakfast on a tray on the sofa in front of the tv. Horrible I know, but he forgets that he's having issues with food and eats a lot more that way. I'll pick the tv battle later when he's eating again!

For lunch and dinner I expect him to eat at the table with us, so it's a lot harder. It helps a little if he grocery shops with me and gets to pick out special foods. Again, terrible I know, but sometimes I let him do one shake of sprinkles on his yogurt or oatmeal to entice him to eat it. He also likes to eat his peas frozen.'

The big thing for us is to stay ahead of his hunger. If he gets hungry he just turns into this emotional mess and refuses to eat. I had to go through three (long) days of refusing all snacks between meals to get him back eating meals and not trying to rely on snacks.

Good luck - I assume our boys will eat us out of house and home eventually and we'll wonder how we ever worried about them eating!!

because you have candy and stuff!!!get rid of the junk food and only have fruit and veggies in the house!!!when it's time to eat give him his meal if he says no,then don't say anything, don't give him anything else to eat,and just say ok,ignore him!!!my son did that so i didn't give him anything to eat,and he woke up the next morning at 6 o clock and ate his food!!!plus he never tried that again!!!kids like to test grown-ups to see what they can get away with,so make some rules[they eat healthy food,go to bed early...etc.and stick to them!!!don't give in or you'll lose ever time after that!!!
