depends on who you ask

Atheists appear foolish always, because God says that it takes a fool to say in his heart that there is no God.

As for Christians, it depends on the person and what comes out of his/her mouth. You must remember that Christians are in different stages of spiritual growth. There are carnal Christians and there are immature Christians. What they say will sometimes be foolish. Also, there are many who claim to be Christians who are hypocrites and not Christians. Satan places them in the church to cause weak Christians to fall away and to keep unsaved people from getting saved, because of their claiming to be Christians but living wickedly. They have caused many to be lost.

But God tells us not to try separate the "wheat from the tares", because we don't know the hearts of the people and we would remove wheat as well as tares. He'll take care of the separating when the time is right.

No. This is an adaptation of a quote from Mark Twain. Better to be thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt. Twain had a real disdain for dogmatic religious types and is thought to have been an atheist. Maybe it depends on the company you are keeping. Somebody starts talking about the concept of original sin around me and they are instantly a fool in my book.

Religious people are some of the most inteligent people around, they hold degrees and have done alot to help suffering people. on the other hand they have been a huge bain to mankind, wars and intolerance , suppression of thought, murder and seperation . The walling off of reason when great scientific finds could ease the suffering of countless people. all done in the name of religion which has no rational ground to stand on. some people say that unbelievers "just dont understand" the only answer to this is that they dont have to understand. when you are basing a socity and your morals on a supernatural being you are the same as walking around with a blindfold on willingly or unwillingly so the case many times is with religion. entire groups of people have been led to the slaughter in the name of religion. still to this day we have a world of countrys fighting eachother becouse they dont agree on the same fairy tale. the opression of homosexuals and women, slavery and murder are all acceptable attitudes within the moral confines of religion. rationality is demanded in all areas of life except religion. you cant build a house praying for nails to appear. yes their are irrational non believing people and many of them are just as guilty as religious people for the ills of the world, the only differance between the two is that nonbelieving people dont hide behind a supernatural being as an excuse.

We are not the enemy of christians and other theists. Our quarrel is with irrationality, wishful thinking, superstitions, intellectual dishonesty, and all other forms of thinking that keep mankind mired in darkness, ignorance and hate. A distorted world view makes alot of people look foolish.

Everyone lives this illusion a little different. When you think about how you look or seem to others, does it effect you? Do you really care? It's the holidays, give people a break.
