Your in for an adventure. The food is fantastic and so are the people. If your a westerner (long nose) be prepared to be bugged for money by the many poor people there. Make sure you use official taxis and make sure they flip the little meter sign (required by law) so there are no surprises on the fare. Visit the great wall and the forbidden city. Try to learn some of the language, most nobody speaks English except western hotel employees. Apartments are small and not up to western standards. If you go to street markets haggle over the price, they will quote a price to westerners that is at least double to triple of what they will take, I usually haggle the price down, if they let me walk away after offering a price then I know I've hit the bottom price.

Nothing a big deal. You will find loads of ppl speaking English in Beijing n Shanghai, if you turn to them for help they'd defo give you a hand, the younger generation, esp the uni students are required to learn English and pass certain levels to obtain their degrees. Food's so much cheaper and hes a lot more varieties than the Chinese food you usually get in a western country. You'd be loved by Chinese women if you are a guy. Finally, be prepared to face the massive population. Have a good time there!

China is great! This is my fourth year. I love it here. Here's a list on another website made up by someone who's been here a long time. http://www.chinarant.com/china_rant/2005/08/the_comprehensi.html

Keep in mind it's supposed to be funny, although many of these things are true. I do some of them.
