I want to become a better, more active Catholic. I currently go to church once or twice a month, if that. I know the easy answer, "Go to church more" but what I want to know is, are there any alternative ways to get confirmed that does not include going before the congregation for consecutive sundays and being led out of mass before the eucharistic ceremonies? I want to become confirmed, badly. I just have a deathly fear of people, it's a panic disorder with claustro/agorphobia. I hate being in crowds, which is why, although I am 26 years old, I still only go to church when I am with my family, and can sit in between them. I need to get confirmed, I have been baptized, and went through first communion ceremonies as a child. However; when confirmation classes were going on our sophomore year, I was involved in sports and it led me away from the church. I can't complain, because I ended up with a scholarship to play baseball. Short question, I want to know how to get confirmed.

I have only developed the panic thing after a wreck during the winter of 2000. It mainly pertains to driving, but the feeling of people staring at me reminds me of being extracted from my vehicle Carnac, so lighten up idiot.

Yes, chuck and first are right, but how to contact a bishop? It's not like they have open phone lines or anything. I would suggest first talking to your priest and explaining your circumstances to him. It really shouldn't be a problem, especially considering the fact that you have a legitimate reason for wanting a private ceremony. In all likelihood, the most difficult part will probably be finding time with the bishop (since you do have to be confirmed by a bishop); they're pretty busy. That's part of the reason why they tend to do confirmation in large groups. Nonetheless, just be patient, and you'll get it worked out. Good luck, God bless, and have a merry Christmas!

You have a deathly fear of people and crowds but you managed to get a sports scholarship? And now you're asking Yahoo a church question that only your priest or bishop could tackle. Methinks maybe you're having a little joke on the poor dumb Christians.

Just in case you're serious, here's the answer: Invite your bishop to the old ball park and have him perform his magic in left field.

Only the Bishop of your jurisdiction can confirm anyone.

You will have to contact his office to see if some private arrangement could be made.

ignore trulylatino he is a homosexual angry at the Church for preaching the truth about his lifestyle. chick is an anti-catholic comic strip writer you can't learn anything helpful from that rag.

I suggest you call the local diocese office I'm sure something there can help if you explain what's going on.

There are no shortcuts with Catholicism. Everything is a long, protracted process. I would talk with the priest and see if Vatican II has made things any easier.

Ya gotta talk to the priest about this....I'm sure he can arrange something for you. It can be done in private with family. Talk to a priest about it.
