The previous owners of my house re-hung drywall in the ceiling in my living room, and when I look at it from an angle, can see dimples where the screws were put in at the drwall joints. Should I sand ths down and then use spackle, or is there a professional way to repair this?

Fill in the dimples with sheet rock mud. Let this dry for 24 to 48 hours smooth out with the rest of the wall and touch up any areas you can see that need it. ( if any more touch up you will have to wait 24 to 48 hours and re smooth)
After that finish as you would like. If painted make surer to primer 1st.

That IS what a pro would do. If you think you can do as well, go ahead.

But it's not quite as easy as it looks. Takes a 'touch'.
