Firstly, well done on getting a doctors appointment!
As you have problems swallowing, this sounds like an internal problem rather than, for instance, a growth on your neck. The glands you have in your neck can expand, when swollen, in any direction and just because the swelling is on your neck to the side, this doesnt mean that the glands toward the the front are not at fault. Also dont forget that the passages of your throat, ear and nose are all inter connected. a mouth infection can manifest as an earache!
It may be the start of glandular fever in which case a course of rather intense antibiotics will help (or any other infection for that matter). Try gargling (carefully with the trouble swallowing) with warm salty water, this should help to ease it. If you have aspirin and are not allergic, take some as these are anti-inflammatory and may be more effective.

sounds familiar. I get that all the time. Prone to tonsilitus. Don't let them take your tonsils out, they are part of your immune system... You will regret it. But Get Some Antibiotics and take Ibuprophen for the pain... helps reduce swelling too. Also, sucking on garlic will help it heal, warm honey and lemon at a 1 to 1 proportion taken 1 tsp at a time gives relief, and believe it or not, expose your neck to the sun if you can... I don't know why, but was told to do this by oriental doctor at my clinic and it sped the healing up by days... sorry you're suffering...

Lets see, a strep infection; sinus infection; ear infection....it's definitely an infection and you'll need to see your doc for antibiotics. In the mean time, ease the symptoms with aspirin (take with food) to reduce the swelling and pain, drink lots of fluids, lay off the cafiene, hot teas and soups will help and gargle with warm salt water (1 tbls. per cup) 2-3 times a day. You might want to consider sleeping with a humidifier also to keep the mucous from getting thick and increasing the chances of collecting more bacteria in the area. I hope you feel better...go to the doc. Godloveya!

Could be tonsil infection - I suffered for years, sore throat spreading to the ear and a swollen gland in the neck on the same side.
Try going to your local hospital, they will have a doctor and a dispensary should you need antibiotics.

It sounds like you have tonsillitis or laryngitis. You need antibiotics and painkillers! If you have to wait until wednesday, try to gurgle some tcp, take paracetamol as well as ibrupufen (don't over do it though!!), and something that I found helpful was a warm cloth over your neck. Good luck and I hope you feel better soon.
