After the death of Khadija (his first wife), prophet Muhammed married an old woman (Sawda) to take care of his children. However, after he married Aisha (the 9-year old bride) he was going to divorce Sawda. The reason? because she got old!

Sawda asked prophet Muhammed to keep her as a wife and he would not be obliged to spend any time with her. He was so kind that he kept her but he did not spend any time with her. This means he spent double the time with Aisha (her day + Sawda's day).

(1) Is it fair to divorce your wife just because she became old?

(2) Even if she asks you not to have sex with her, should not you spend more time with her to comfort her and look after her health? I thought this would be better than spending double the time with the other child wife (especially for a prophet).

even without seeing the links what are saying is WRONG from the first place, he didn't devorce any of his wives (peace be upon him),
and our mother sawda is the one who asked him to do so , not himself because she is felt that she became old , it was her choice,
and the reason for choosing our mother aish is that she is the most beloved wife to the prophet and NOT about sex..

THE TRUTH:
When she was older, the prophet was worried that Sawda might be upset about having to compete with so many wives, and offered to divorce her. She said that she would give her night to Aisha, of whom she was very fond, because she only wanted to be his wife on the Day of Rising. She lived on until the end of the time of Umar ibn al Khattab. She and Aisha always remained very close.

it is known that sawda was old not very attractive and not rich at all but the prophet married her because she was widowed and he knew she would be able to take care of his children properly

In today's world, that would seem a very strange thing to do, but remember, the Prophet Muhammed (Peace be Upon Him) lived in the 7th Century AD, and customs of that time and area were very different than today, so it is hard to judge. Today, there are some areas of the world that unfair marriage practises exist, that benefit the Male, but back then, Women were considered Chattel, and had basically no rights.

Are you joking? What approximately the different better halves? they are lots older than Aisha to boot and that they've been widows (no longer virgins) whilst they have been given married to Muhammad. This tale is in simple terms without good judgment.

Lol Poki.... I was going to say something along those lines.... but you beat me to it brother.... It's alright.... it saves me the time ;) :P lol.....

Narrated Aisha: Whenever Allah's Apostle wanted to go on a journey, he would draw lots as to which of his wives would accompany him. He would take her whose name came out. He used to fix for each of them a day and a night. But Sauda bint Zam'a gave up her (turn) day and night to 'Aisha, the wife of the Prophet in order to seek the pleasure of Allah's Apostle (by that action).

Aaaahh basically what brother Poki said.... consider that as my answer :P lol

And nice one MuslimRose.... I'm with you sis....

Read about the wives of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him), the Mothers of the Believers (may Allaah be pleased with them)

It doesn't seem fair to me but I believe the prophet Muhammed lived several hundred years ago and their laws may have been different back then. I have never been a fan of his but I would never want to judge anyone. Let God be the Judge and jury on that one.

I think it's between him and his wife to worry about it. Those times were different and the customs were different so we should not be judgmental about things. There a lot of things about Jesus that can be questioned but nothing changes the fact that they have done more than you and I who are simply blowing hot air if you know what I mean.

no i don't think it was fair for him to do that along with many other things he did such as spread his religion through conquest (for those who will claim otherwise or make this sound nicer-they are only trying the deviate from the fact)
1) of course it isnt ok to divorce your wife for being old...cmon he was old too...but again women are treated like objects and not humans by many of the followers of this religion so it made sense to them...and the quran writes that it is ok to have four wives as long as they are treated equally...why not five six seven...so on...four is decent huh? so this in itself i explanatory of the value of women that the book holds of the individuals who were given the responsibilty of having periods every month and bearing children so that life on this earth might continue.

2) hmm....well has this physical attachment become necessity..quite certainly...as i said it is wrong and absolutely revolting to have more than one wife...you should always comfort her and look after her health regardless of whether you are having sex with her or not...
remarriage is one thing--i disagree with it because it shows disregard for the deceased...but polygamy is unacceptable by all forms a morality.

Did you know that Hadrat Khadijah was older than the Prophet Muhammad(PBUH)?
She was 40 when he married her at the age of 25.
So, what is your point?
Try doing a little research next time.

No, that did`t happened.
What happened it that "sawda " give her day to "aisha" with love to her husband "muhamed "
No one asked her to do So. she did that with love and faith. to mohamed .
Prophet Mohamed is the master of good behaviour , and generous . there was nothing looking for sex.
Then about you, yu are ignorant person , with bad behavoiour , trying to put bad things in front of other ,pls respect yourself and other beleives and do not put things from your dreams.
