Interesting question. I feel that Jesus was a man, an Israeli, a Jew, a carpenter, born into the line of David and, as such, a well-educated potential leader. I believe that he assumed this leadership as an adult, developed a following, and espoused a philosophy of non-violence and peace that was unheard of in that day. I believe that he was highly intelligent and a gifted, charismatic speaker, a master storyteller, a kind and gentle man who truly cared about his people. I believe that he truly believed himself to be the son of God, and that he was incorrect in this belief. I think that, as his following grew, he became a political threat to his country's leaders, and that his execution was more of an assassination than anything else. I believe that he knew that he would become, as a martyr, even more powerful after death, and that stories of his resurrection would ensure his place in history. I appreciate his significance, but would not worship him.
