you should confront your dad about not calling you, it is your right to speak your mind. Then realize you may just be one of the very unlucky kids who have a dad that is more worried about him self than anything else in life. But don't let that define who you are, because your dad is selfish does not mean you are unworthy. Know your dad is missing out on a wonderful person (YOU) and let him deal with that regret on his own someday. Best of luck and stay proud.

Why not attempting to call him? It's very easy to forget important things like that. For example, I forgot to call my family for Christmas. If the Father is active in his life, calls out of the blue etc, then you have no worries. He may also be reluctant to call because maybe he's worried that the 12 year old doesn't like him or whatever.

I think the 12 yr old should give his dad a call. Even if he doesn't answer, leave him a message.

You should feel badly. Why? Because everyone wants a dad to love them and care for them. Then, you need to know that it's not YOUR failure it's the father who is failing you--big time.

Write him a note/card letting him know how it makes you feel and how important it is for him to be a part of your life.
