The best car to buy can easily be identified by looking at what goes around as taxis. Whenever I move to a new country, I look at what the cabbies drive, and get that. So, in the US or Canada, get a Ford Crown Victoria, in England, a Toyota Avensis, in New Zealand, a Toyota Camry, in Germany, a Mercedes E-class, etc.
Cabbies know best!

I guess it depends on what size you want and what you like. The Honda Civic and Accord are both very good cars and always rank high. The Toyota Camry is also a very good car. The Honda Odyssey and Toyota Sienna are both good mini-vans. Check out Consumer Reports for further info.
