This depends on the person drinking.
Blood alcohol levels of .08% are considered legally under the influence in most states for purposes of driving a vehicle. But the percentage of alcohol in the blood is dependent on the body weight of the person. Someone over 200 pounds will have a lower blood alchohol level than someone weighing 100 pounds, after drinking the same amount.
It all depends also on whether you consume alcohol on a full stomach after a meal, or not eating anything. The alchohol takes longer to get into the blood.
People react differently to alcohol. There appear to be genetic differences in some ethnic groups as to how alcohol affects them. A confirmed alcoholic acquires a sort of tolerance to alcohol, and requires a higher amount of alcohol to become "drunk"; a teetotaler of a slight build may require less.
Generally speaking, about three to four whiskys may put you over the edge of being "drunk", depending on how fast you consume the drinks.

Here is a website to determine how many drinks will it take to exceed the blood alcohol level for legal purposes. The fact that it is provided by a lawyers' association that defends drunk drivers will give you some idea of how often this is an issue. Type in your sex, weight, and type of alcohol you consume, will give a statistical average of the blood alcohol level.

Drink responsibly. If you drink, don't drive. If you go to a party, get a ride home from a designated driver. Happy New Year.

1 ounce of whiskey is equal to 1 beer and you can drink 1 or either an hour and still be legally sober. With that said 2 drinks in an hour is legally drunk. For someone who drinks on an average basis, maybe 4-5 before they think they're drunk.

First of all it depends on what a person has had to eat, their tolerance, and body mass. If a 150lb person has had a steak dinner BEFORE drinking 2, 2 oz whiskey cocktails, his BAC will be below average. The grease will coat his stomach and allow the alcohol to pass through the body. A person who is 150lbs, without food will become "legally" drunk after 2, 2oz, drinks. The average guy weighing 200+ will consume 5, 2oz drinks without showing any effects. This is due to body mass, and tolerance. Everyone is different, and it is difficult to determine exactly what will inebriate an individual, due to body mass, tolerance, and food previously consumed.

the key word is average. meaning a 175 lb person. need to know how many drinks in a hour's time if it is three within that hour, then yes he's drunk. not so if that person is over 300lbs. but for the average, hes o.k. on two but three hes drunk. the liver only filters out so much per hour

Whiskey has stronger alcohol than beer. If you drink whiskey that is the amount of beer, you'll get drunk easily.
