My mom, my sister and I were all in the kitchen talking. I was in mid-sentence when my mom took my sister by the hand and led her into the dining room. I was left my myself and awkwardly talking to no one. So I just stopped talking in the middle of my sentence.

I was annoyed, so I left the kitchen, exiting through the opposite door, so my mom and sister did not see me leave. When my mom returned to the kitchen SHE was mad at ME for ditching them without a word.

Turns out, she want in the other room to get me a present that for some reason she thought I could use right then. (Though I still don't know what it is.)

Of course, I think I'm right, but I'd like some other opinions.

In this case you were both right and you were both wrong. They were right with their intentions, but wrong in how they went about doing it (they should have said they would be right back or something like that). You were right in how you felt, but you also were wrong in how you reacted. Basically, you lowered yourself to their level (or how you perceived their level to be).

Read the headlines, then be thankful that this is the type of stuff you are worried about. Tell them you are sorry in how you reacted and get over it. Family is too important.

You should explain you are not a mind reader and had no way of knowing why she left, other than it was to not hear what you were saying. She could have waited a few more moments until you were done talking.

If you need something about which to be upset this is a good one. Common courtesy would dictate she say something about "Excuse me I'll be right back." But some mom's don't believe they have to be respectful toward daughters. Remember that when you are a mom.

They could have waited until you were done talking but, they meant well, I say everyone should apologize and continue with a Merry Christmas and not let this one thing ruin it....

Seems like there is something peculiar about your strong reaction...and about their walking out on you in mid-sentence.

I like Teppic's answer.

I always wonder why someone has to be right...

Merry Christmas.

You could try telling her that you're happy and grateful that she got you it, but that when she left the room you didn't know that she'd gone to get the present since she didn't mention it, so it isn't your fault.

SHE WAS RUDE BUT MAY NOT THINK SO BECAUSE SHE IS THE MOTHER. BUT IT DOESNT SOUND LIKE HER INTENTIONS WERE TO HURT YOU IN ANYWAY. MAYBE SHE JUST WANTED TO SURPRISE YOU. IF I WERE YOU I WOULDNT LLET THIS RUIN CHRISTMAS.
