There are undoubtedly many christians who do not accept biological evolution. This question regards another issue, which is not directly related to evolution. How many of you accept the fact that the earth and universe are actually billions of years old, as is life? How many of you believe that they are younger, because of the single word "day" in Genesis. (which was translated from a dead language.)

If you do think that the earth and universe are younger, how do you explain all of the overwhelming cosmological and geological evidence to the contrary? And why cling to such a literal viewpoint when so much of the Bible involves metaphors?

when the first lunar lander was going to be sent to the moon, NASA was wrried that it would sink into the many feet thick layer of cosmic dust that had formed on the moon. in reality, there was only 1/8 an inch of dust indicating a relatively young moon, only a few thousand years. 20,000 years ago the magnetic field of the earth would have been so strong that any evolving life wouldnt have been able to form not to mention that it would have been so intense that it would have disintegrated the earth. at the suns rate of 5 feet per year decompositon rate, 100,000 years ago, the earth would have been so close to the sun that it would have melted. in the bible, the word used for day is used 400 some times (in its original translation) each and every time meaning 24 hours, why would genesis be the exception?
doubt you will check it but i gave the link to an answers in genesis page that has 15 points for a young earth

well for a christian i believe the earth is 6000 years old. at most 10000 years. the Bible actually gets into talking about a day is 24 hours and that it is the same today. God can do anything. you also forget that actually they do not have evidence supporting the earth being billions of years old. they say they do but it has been proven wrong. and if you believe it is that old the last thing i saw that scientist was trying to prove is that earth is now like 40 million years old. not even close to billion. they have been proven wrong with a lot of stuff that they still try to say is true. i believe it was mt. everret or whatever mountain that blew up. it was said the the outcome should have been from millions or years but it took only like an hour. just like the moon. they expected if it were a billion even a million years old that it would have had at least a foot or 2 of dust but it did not. it had only about an inch. if that. and with studys on that showed that the moon was only 6000 years old. roughly. being that it was about what 40 yrs ago or so when we landed on earth. same with the earths population. we would not beable to live if it were older. if you believe in the Bible then you should not be trying to use both creation and evolution. there was no death tell adam and eve ate the fruit. therefore man was also around when dinasours and all other animals were around. and not millions or billions of years. creationist who believe God created heavens and earth but say it is billions of years old are trying to except evolution and claim both.

haha if you are trying to tell me about science then you got to study up more. i was not trying to say that creation is science. however there is more science evidence to back up creation. that is different then saying it is science. evolution is not science either. like you said you have to have a theorie and on top of that you have to prove it and evolution has not done that. and actually there is only the time from like the first 4 days that our in question. once God created the moon and sun and rotated the earth then that started what we know as today days. and also later on the Bible talks about all those days as being the same. and that it has not changed. and we do have a timeline of Adam and when man was made and tell now. that is how they determined how old the earth is. now the only other option is if you dont believe in God and that he created earth then what. that some type of matter just so happend to form and then explode and make a perfect earth. even though explosions cause chaos. that is like a car factory exploding and then making a car. now what we have though is lets say 2 people walk on the beach and see a sand castle. one says that had to have been made the other says no the waves coming in formed that. who is right. unless the person who made it is there to say no i made it. either one is right. however we know the truth and it is obvious

oh and the Bible also talks about how obvious it is that God created the earth. that there is no excuse why you should not believe. so even God himself gave us evidence. i do read my Bible and i believe without the proof. just cool to see how much has been shown and proven and how people still follow evolution even though that has changed over and over again. once they thought earth was billions years old now they say it is only like 40 million years old. why cause they cant make up there mind and prove anything. just like you can bury something for like 5 years and they will say it is 100 years old or older. they even had a bone that was the same bone from the same animal and time and on one end of the bone it was only like 2000 years old and the other side they said it was a couple million years old. hmm how is that.

Are you really saying Creationism is science? Guess what: It is not, it is a belief.

You really need to know the difference between science and revelation. You seem to have merged them together, find conflict using one as applied to the other.

According to the bible, God existed before he created everything you can observe. This is a claim that can not be "proved' by science. There are no facts about this, so no theories can explain it. You seem to thing there is a "proof" in the revealed knowledge. Oddly enough, there isn't. God's existence is assumed by the believer.

You think science has the answers since your knowledge of the bible (which is not scientific book) does not explain what man observes. The bible is a religious book that tells about things man can not observe. You make the claim that bible say that the earth of the is 6000 years. It doesn’t. You fail to take into account the time when God created the earth to the time that Adam was created and the duration that Adam was in the Garden. That time is not given to us, but people have decided to make conclusion on information not given. People try to use (poorly) science method as if the bible is collection of facts. There are no facts, no theories, just what the prophets tell us. The prophets even tell us that there are other books regarding history and science, and bible is not one of them

This bring us back not to thinking but believing. Something you do not. You take words of the prophets as scientific premises whose truth is determined by man. God reveals, man observes. If you expect to observe God, you would need to be immortal with the capacity to observe the unobservable.

If you want science, stick to scientific theories that explain the fact, not to the foolish that fail to read the bible and try to make God’s revelation something that can be observed by man. The bible is something you believe, not something you analyze.

Answer: Creationism is not science. Whatever its theories is not based on the scientific method. This is what every scientist has stated. If you want to use the bible in science, use quotes of God’s glory in what He has created. If you want to get to God, the scientific method is not designed to do that. God’s revelation, not man’s observation, is the necessary tool.

first off Hebrew is not a dead language. It has been spoken and understood up to the modern day.

Secondly even if the word is yom which means day how on earth do you have a day which is measured by the sun seating and rising if according to Genesis there was not a sun till the fourth day?

clearly the Bible is not speaking literally which has been understood for thousands of years.

I POSTED THIS QUESTION YESTERDAY BIBLE SAYS WORLD IN THE EARTH

What is age of universe, earth, plant life, animal lives, world, bible, science, evolution, world history?

THE AGE OF WORLD HISTORY IS WHAT?
AS:
Egypt, Assyria, Babylon, Cyrus of Medo-Persia, Greece, Rome, Europe and the Americas.
Rev.17:10-14;
Empire #1 to Empire #5 Greece is fallen.
Empire #6 Rome is where Jesus was, Now John is on Patmos to write Revelations about the year of 95 to 99 or 100 after Christ.
Empire #7 WILL BE A FULL EMPIRE, the 8th and of the seven, will not be.

Is this truely world history and did Daniel and John know world history?

Gen.1:1,2; No time is given, who thinks it is ages old? Job.38:30-32;
Gen.1:1-25; No time is given.
Day is generations as ages Col.1:26; Eph.2:7; Ages past and ages to come Eph.3:21;
Gen.1:26;
God said,"Let us make man in our image, after our likeness."
Col.1:15-17[ First creation created ]; Rev.3:14;
God had done this with Jesus John 17:3,5,24; Before the world was.
John 8:58; Jesus was before Abraham. Job 38:4-7; Angels see earth prepared.
Psm.77:5;
Time considered as ancient.

Is it possible to list each with a time?

I'm sure some creationists still do think that the planet Earthy is only 6000 days old- but, like you said, I think most know it's a metaphor.

I still don't believe that humans have been around for hundreds of thousands of years, though. You know when scientists take a rock that looks like a tool and test it? I don't see how that's testing the tool. I can believe the ROCK is 200,000 years old, but...

I believe that when G-d created the Earth 5767 years ago, He made 4 billion year old universe, with fossils, and a past that could have been evolutionary.

People who think that god created a earth 6k years ago and then molded a 4billion yr universe around it are fools ...even in the religious sense

Obviously you care so little about god that you think he would be so petty as to create a fake timeline for man to be confused over.

Its the same as saying that god put dinosour bones on earth to fool men. If u state god did either of the above...he is not a GOD but a petty little man. Or that he put things on earth for man to find and date improperly.

I'm a Christian and I get that the world is billions of years old. God's clock isn't the same as ours. That's a convenient explanation that I received from my priest as a child, but it works for me.

My faith gives me comfort and helps me deal with the day to day BS of life. I think the Old Testament wasn't meant to be taken as fact; I think that you're absolutely correct, the Bible does involve tons of metaphors. We're to use it as a guide.

some do. they're called "youthful Earth Creationists". maximum Creationists do no longer. "Then why does information advise the Earth is 4.6 billion years previous.." information does certainly advise that the Earth is approx. 4.7 billion years previous. "..and that existence stepped forward over tens of millions of years ?" The information would not advise something of the variety. analyze the fossil checklist, specially the Cambrian explosion.
