When I play mpg or mpeg movies I get off limewire,they work. But when I download a movie in avi. format, it tells me I need a codec to play it. How can resolve this without knowing which codec I need. Thank You.

Go to this website - http://www.divx.com/
and download their codec. It should work.
Secondly, if u upgrade to media player 11 then it has all the latest codecs.

Hi yes, without a codec it can.
Players like media player or quicktime will read .avi format
but you will have to download them first OR,
you can go to www.download.com and type "avi player" and choose from different free software that play avi without a codec.
